Ammo box cache off of the trail. Nice spot. Steep terrain and undergrowth in the area.
We put some Lord of the Rings items in our cache. If you like, keep up the tradition.

Found on a beautiful day of hiking and great conversation with gampa&gamma! I've been meaning to explore the Waldo Canyon area for a while, and today was the day. My mom was unexpectedly in town for a little longer than anticipated, so she joined us, too...for an excellently tiring hike that ended up being longer than expected, as well (and uphill on the way back, even)! I thought we were only going for 4 (or maybe 8 caches if we were feeling it), but we got to GZs for 10! Along the way, my mom decided that she'd finally get her own geocaching account for all the traveling she does, too. We have a convert, haha! Thank you for placing this cache! We really enjoyed it!

We enjoyed an incredibly beautiful Colorado day of hiking and caching with Kerewin0430 and her mom. Signed log and replaced as found. Fun loot inside! Thanks!

Thanks for the lonely cache!!! Today I needed to get out as I've been feeling pretty down. I've been eyeing these caches since the are "Opened" back up. I made a few quick stops before heading up the mountain. I approached all the ones I found today from below at one of the pull offs just past Waldo Canyon. It was a steep climb but I managed a good time up and around a large loop to find 7 and 1 DNF. This was my 6th find of the day. I spotted Gandalf's staff from above and snapped a picture. Climbing down I spotted the cache! It survived very much intact!!!! Just a bit singed! Contents fared even better. Lots of plastic that could have melted but there was no damage. Loved seeing Frodo and all the other goodies inside. Snapped a few more pictures and stamped the log. 6+ years lonely and survived a massive wild fire! One tough cache! Thanks for placing this fun one!
Singed but in very good condition!

Nothing melted! Perfectly fine!
Ha ha ha!!
6 years and survived the fire! The log!

I was hoping to try for this one today, but got to within 200 feet and called it quits. Reason for doing so: The Waldo Canyon Wildfire broke out on June 23, 2012. Since then, the area has been closed to hikers, including the area where this cache is. Then, on October 3, 2017, the US Forest Service issued Order PSICC-2017-22, which reopened the area for hiking, but no overnight camping or campfires. I parked north of Severy Road in Cascade at a trailhead, and hiked southeast to GZ. After about 2 1/2 hours of fairly tough hiking and caching for Mr. Out-of Shape here, I was pretty beat, and my backpack/water reservoir was beginning to get pretty light. And I still needed to get back to the Jeep. I hiked straight towards this one from Howard's Rock (GCP952) and -- see photo -- knew that GZ was BEYOND those rocks in the middle of the picture. That meant that I could either go down super-steep terrain (I am afraid of heights) or go the LONG way to the West-Northwest, regain the trail, and go from there. And that would be a WHOLE BUNCH of downhill, meaning a whole bunch of UPHILL getting back out. After the 3 previous caches I went for in the burn zone were: a torched container (Smokey's Stash GCMYV0), and 2 DNFs (Sushi GC17H98 and the previously mentioned Howard's Rock), I called it quits and headed back out. Sorry I couldn't provide more info on the condition of the cache after the fire :-(

Great, calm, Memorial Day find. Last of the collection of caches on this ridge before dropping SE into the stream bed leading to the Waldo Canyon trail....nice morning spent getting all 6 on this ridge.

Last time I was up this way was to get Howard's Rock nearly 5 years ago. After coming up the "side trail" again today I now remember why it has been that long. BlackEye The area once you get up here is great though. It's always nice to find an ammo can.

Finally did a check on this cache. Still there. Take time to geocache this area before the weather gets bad!

On the way back to a trail, Mrs. LL2 just muttered "not my favorite cache today." It certainly lived up to earlier comments and the cleverly shaded short description. If there's a hike involved, every cache is a great cache - Thanks!

Wow how on earth did you find this place. It is so off the beaten path. Our GPS died right after finding. we bushwhacked our way back to the main trail. for the conclusion of a great Geocaching day. TFTC

Found this one after searching for a trail to get to it. Great find, off the beaten path for sure. Very LoTR. Left a Gandalf roadsign. Bushwacked back to Waldo trail - much respect to the others who did this, yuccas and scrub oaks tried to prevent our passage - "You Shall Not Pass!" - however, we did. TFTC. S&L, von GMF.
