I picked this one up while in the local area during the end of the June transition month for what I called the "Freeze and Fry Run"...snivel cold at night and in the morning, sun beating hot in the afternoon. I had to go to Cortez, CO to pick up some old friends from New Jersey to act as their tour guide while enroute to DIA. Of course, I was trying to hike and pick up a few caches before they arrived. I decided to give this series a try because it looked fun, had decent D/T ratings, and was within "striking distance" after having to recover from a dead battery in my Xterra in the first half of the day. Despite some of the log entries, I really didn't think this was too intense a hike. Lucky for me, the late start was a bonus as the mountains offered shade and some much needed protection from the sun.

As soon as I got to GZ, I could see that this one would be problematic. Not counting the string of DNFs and the last find in 2013, I wagered this one was missing. The GZ plots in the overflow path /flood zone of the stream. Growing up in a coastal area, I could see the distressed vegetation and various debris scattered about from the water. Despite a detailed search, I was unable to come up with the container and assumed it was gone. I know the CO likes sneaky hides and I could have simply missed it, but I went ahead and took the liberty of making a replacement on the other side of the trail, safe from the water. The CO has allot of remote caches, so I hope making a replacement helps him out. The new container is a camo'ed pill bottle. Updated coordinates and a spoiler photo is included. This cache was lonely, not having been found for almost 4 years. I keep track of caches that are one year or more lonely for challenges. With this find, I now have (counting only 1 year or more lonely) a total of 97 years, 0 months lonely time on 51 caches from 11 North American States & Provinces. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

Searched for quite a while with our good friends RVer and Eagle eyes to no avail. Frustration and inclement weather kept us from hiking up to #5.
