Woo-HOO, [FTF] at 1:24 pm !
Yesterday I made up a list of geocaches that I hoped to to get in Buena Vista today and I always check to see if there are any lonely caches that I think I can get, that have not been found in a year or more. Easy to do that by searching on the geocaching web page in Buena Vista and then sorting the list by the last log entry. Hey look, a new geocache that just got published which means it has never been found!
So I put a watch on it and this afternoon nobody had found it yet, so off I went. From the main road it is 3.2 miles on a dirt road that was no problem in my Subaru Outback but I was a little concerned in the last two tenths of a mile but thankfully, my Subie pulled through and got me to the parking area within 100 ft of the geocache. I had found four previous geocachers by kittyfireworks today before going for this one so I had an idea of what type of container to look for. But there were a lot of possible hiding spots and my GPS was bouncing around like a pinball in a wind tunnel. 30 ft that way, no make that 45 ft this way. No you are right at it! No I wasn't, keep looking. 25 ft that way, you get the idea.
Then it started raining.
And I kept thinking about that last two tenths of a mile which would now be uphill on the way back out, and those big raindrops that were falling. Thankfully, right then I noticed something that looked a little out of place. Got it! Okay, go fast.
Open it up and there is a clean log sheet. All right!
Stamped it as you can see in the attached picture, put a trackable on top of everything in that geocache container, closed it up and put it back and then safely made it back to the main road and headed off to lunch in Buena Vista.
While at lunch I realized that when I put that trackable which was in a 3 inch by 4 inch ziploc on top of everything else in the container, I did not see, and therefore left, the slip of paper saying FTF and the $1 FTF prize in the container.
Darn it !
But that's okay, somebody will be happy to find that George Washington.
Favorite point, and now very happy to be back home at my place in Woodland Park.
TFTC !
