My first in a series on rock history! An interesting view of a nearby bridge. Log only.

Alton and Rebon Delmore were country music pioneers and stars at the Grand Ole Opry in the 1930's. They had a profound impact on the history of country music and American popular music. The Delmore brothers were born into poverty in Elkmont, Alabama as the sons of tenant farmers amid the rich tradition of gospel and Appalacian folk music. The brothers blended gospel style harmonies with the quicker guitar work of traditional folk music and blues to help create the still emerging genre of country music. The duo was one of few to use a tenor guitar (four strings). After going electric in the mid 1940's they recorded "Freight Train Boogie" (King label 1946) which is regarded by many as the first rock and roll record. Their best known song "Blues Stay Away from Me" has been recorded by too many artists to name. So here's to The Delmore Brothers country and rock music pioneers!
