We love this hike up Muddy Creek! We have been coming here for about 15 years. There are fresh service berries and chokecherries to pick in the fall. The road can be a bit muddy to drive, depending on the season and recent precipitation. This is a very beutiful part of Colorado.

From Highway 133, take Forest Road 265 (CR 265 on some maps) to FR 844 (Google earth calls it Road 256 - the Right Turn is at the following coordinates: 39.1254, -107.4661) which you will follow to the end. Look for the road leading to the Olson Place on your Colorado Atlas. There are two creek crossings on this road, so bring and appropriate vehicle, or walk from the first creek crossing. The end of this road goes into private land. The parking area, with a gate across the road leads you to National forest trail 810 - Clear Fork of the Muddy Creek. Park at the informal trailhead where there is a gate across the road and information about sheepherding opeartions. The NFS trail starts there and you have to hike about 1.25 miles to the cache. The hike is very easy - mostly on an access road.

Once you get near the cache - you will be crossing the creek yet again. Enjoy the beauty of the area - have a picnic, see the wildlife!

Favorite point for the adventure and location. We are staying at Redstone campground and needed an adventure. We thought we would be following the creek more, but enjoyed this a lot. We are Colorado natives and have never seen this area. Quite a few hunters camped at the gate today, but fortunately no gunshots. 2nd to find.

Fallen Tree, Twin Tree, Bit of Shade. Doesn't matter what you call it, this is exactly what a cache should be
1. It takes me down a new path that I have never been on before. I really enjoyed all the small ranches on the way in. Creek crossings were not too bad, road was fairly dry despite all the recent rains.
2. It gets me out of the car and into nature. The route was very accessible, no bushwacking required, hike was fairly short. Area was not overrun with people, really only ran into one cowboy.
3. It has a personal connection to the CO that they would like to share with others.
4. Cache can be found. There is nothing worse than trekking deep in the woods and not being able to find the cache. Believe me, there are plenty of woods in the area to trek if that is all that I'm after, but if you are going to bring me out to your personal retreat, it's nice to find the reward.

CO delivered on all accounts. Hardest part of this journey was trying to find a way to cross the creek without getting wet. I failed on this part, but depending on the season, who knows.

Thanks for the cache, [FTF]! Woo-Hoo!
