Congratulations to jeeperz 1&2 for being FTF.

The cache is located in the Costilla County Veteran's Park near Fort Garland, Colorado. Access is from a short dirt road off of Highway 159 just south of the railroad crossing. Cache is log only so bring your own pen. Should be an easy find as accuracy was 7.7 feet during my location average and there are only a few places to hide it.

For those interested in the aircraft on display: The Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star is an American-built jet trainer aircraft. It was produced by Lockheed and made its first flight in 1948, piloted by Tony LeVier. The T-33 was developed from the Lockheed P-80/F-80 starting as TP-80C/TF-80C in development, then designated T-33A.
The two-place T-33 proved to be a suitable advanced trainer, and it has been used for such tasks as drone director and target towing, and some T-33s retained two machine guns for gunnery training. In some countries, the T-33 was even employed as a combat aircraft. The RT-33A version, reconnaissance aircraft produced primarily for use by foreign countries, had a camera installed in the nose and additional equipment in the rear cockpit. T-33s continued to fly as currency trainers, drone towing, combat and tactical simulation training, "hack" aircraft, electronic countermeasures and warfare training and test platforms right into the 1980s.

Our second big trip this year. This time more mid country hunting for the oldest caches in the states. Our trip started in Kansas City, MO and continued through Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, the most NW corner of Texas, New Mexico to culminate in Colorado. It rained all day first three days but that did not stop us to accomplish our goals and some. Colorado Springs welcomed us with the snow and below freezing temperatures. But the hunt must go on... Maggie :) and I enjoyed this beautiful country, the scenery, the animals, the food and friendly people.

This looked to be on the side of the road, but it takes some driving back and down a dirt road to get here. Cool memorial. Almost missed the cache. Had to circle that hiding spot twice then came back to the most obvious place to look and this time the light was right or mbl was looking more up than down and soon saw the cache and signed the log. All is well here. A lady stopped and asked directions to the reservoir and we told her we didn't live here either, but we showed it to her on the map and told her to keep going and there would most likely be signs. Thanks for this cache and for bringing us here.

More luck this time! After visiting the Sand Dunes we headed back to Olney Springs. We made a stop at this cache. The DNFs before sounded not really good...when we visited this place one year before the cache was gone too. So we were very surprised that we spotted the cache in less then 30 seconds. Thanks for showing this nice place! best regards, Izzifix

Ah yes, back in beautiful Colorado with Izzifix & Harvestmoon2 for family time.

Today was our day to visit The Great Sand Dunes National Park. We got a couple of Earthcaches and a Virtual but decided hiking to to High Dune was not for us today. We still enjoyed the beauty and geology here.

Thanks to all the CO’s for placing the caches we enjoyed hunting. Much appreciated!

This was our 2nd visit here with the first stop being last September while driving to California. DNF’d the first visit so glad to avenge it
