CONGRATULATIONS TO lightbulboff FOR THE FTF!!!

For almost 13 years "Hahn's Peak Cache", GCGBBG, has been an attractive backcountry objective for cachers who hike, 4-Wheel, mountain bike, or use motorcycles or ATVs to reach remotely-placed caches.  That cache is located at about 10,500 feet elevation, well below the actual summit of this marvelous peak.

Now there's a cache close to the highest elevation on Hahn's, at a spot that affords remarkable vistas of spectacular landscapes and terrain.  A steep hike from the vicinity of GCGBBG to the top of the peak is required to reach the cache vicinity.  Make the hike, find the cache, sign the log sheet, and then relax and appreciate the special place you've reached!

Parked at 410/490 crossing (just under 9000ft). Did the 1800ft hike in 1.25 hr. Got to the summit and saw cache was about 90ft down some steep rocks. Went down to GZ and looked around for 1/2 hour, but no luck. Messaged CO to be sure I was in the right spot. Got feedback that I had looked above and partially at the right spot. Went and checked more, but still did not find. Per CO, I put another small bottle at the correct place. Original may have fallen or been covered by more rocks. Anyway, next folks may have two chances to find. Gets a fav for a cool peak and interesting place for the cache in a high traffic area. TFTC.

Well sadly I didn't get to go after this one. I had a medical issue come up that prevented me from joining the rest of my group on this hike. I'm really bummed about it. I'm hoping that this one will stay active for a while. If an opportunity presents itself for me to get back out here I'll for sure make this one of my first stops!

pogwog, I have every intention of keeping this cache active, as I do with every one of my backcountry caches. Each has a real purpose when I hide it. So it should be OK for you on your next planned hike for it.

I plan on making my second hike to the top of Hahn's Peak next week. Glad to see that there's another cache up there!

55Connie and I are celebrating our 36th anniversary today, so we had to do something memorable. We decided to hike to the top of Hahns Peak. As we drove towards the trailhead we could see the peak was covered with snow. We decided to try to at least get "Hahns Peak Cache" (GCGBBG). We encountered hikers returning from the summit and were advised we could reach the summit if we were careful. Having spent almost an hour looking (GCGBBG) we still had time to bag the peak. Once at the fire tower we found that the cache was 90' down the side. My wife thought I was crazy when I headed down the slope to make the find. There was a lot of rock, but when I got close my geo senses clicked in and I was able to make the find quite easily (thankfully there was no snow on that particular slope. Great hide in a great location. TFTC.
