This cache is placed adjacent to the summit of the true Mt. Margaret. The correct peak is about 0.4 mile NW of the cache City Slickin' Margaret (which is located on a high point that has been inadvertently called Mt. Margaret because of an historic mistake in a trail sign). Hike the Mt. Margaret Trail following the new signage that correctly identifies the various trail junctions. At the trail's end scramble up rocks and boulders to the summit.  This scrambling might be a bit imposing to some hikers, so judge your comfort level before committing to the final 200 feet. Once at the top, find the cache, sign the log, and congratulate yourself for reaching this interesting backcountry cache location.

Then find Mt. Margaret’s softest rock to sit on while you admire the marvelous views and munch your lunch.  Look north and exclaim “GEE WHIZ!!” as you study the rocky summit where “The Crux” is hidden.

You are in a pretty special place at the top of Mt. Margaret...!

Well today I discovered that the Mount Margaret trail doesn't give you access to the summit. Regardless of this we scrambled our way over many a rock and found this one quickly when we arrived. Cache is in great shape. Thanks for another adventure!

Today seven members of the CMC, lead by Denali41 and Silver Trekker, had a wonderful snowshoe outing to "Mounts" Margaret, both the old and the new. The sun was shining and we were welcomed by 18 inches of fresh, untracked snow when we arrived at the trailhead. We donned our shoes and headed north. We first went to the "old" Mt Margaret summit as described in Denali's cache write-up. While on that peak I found and logged City Slickin' Margaret. Then the group headed NW to the "new" Mt Margaret. The fresh snow made the scramble a little trickier than it had recently been in dry conditions. But everyone made it to the top safely! Before leaving the peak I went over to locate this cache. Got on the wrong side of a big boulder and a low tree and had to crawl on my hands and knees in the snow to get to the other side but I got to the right spot and found the container. Signed the log and then rejoined the others for the scramble back down.

The views from this Margaret are especially nice! I gazed at the peak where "The Crux" is located and could feel the pull. I'll have to make it a point to get there this summer because it's awful lonely over there. Thanks Steve for leading us to this great location and for placing this really nice cache here!!!

FTF at 10:45 am on a sunny and breezy Sunday morning. Renee and I were up early to ride out to the Mount Margaret Trail head and arrived there under sunny and cool conditions. We had the icy parking lot to ourselves as we prepared to start the hike. The snow and ice on the trail was crunchy under foot on about on third of the trail, especially the earlier sections. We managed to get a couple of other caches while we we out. The overlook was great and the scrambling was not too hard, especially considering some of the potential scrambles that are out there. We have driven on the road below the summit a few times and have admired the peaks on both sides of the road. Glad to have Mount Margaret counted as one of the caches in our portfolio. We met a couple of other hikers along the way but the trails were quiet except for the crunching of the snow under foot.

Thanks, Denali41 for adding this cache to area we are learning to love more and more.
