An amazing homestead still partially standing in NW Colorado! Bet you haven't seen another like this one in this area!-- Cell Service May be spotty, so download this one if using the app!

Martin Lukas homesteaded here in 1921. He was born in Austria in 1871 and ended up here! While most homesteads of this day were built of log walls, this was truly a unique homestead built of stone! "The Lukas family was well-respected in the area. Martin lived a quiet and respectable life and got along well with his neighbors." (Craig Daily Press, 2009) He was one of the best stone masons in the area!

"The Lukas family didn't make headlines with their quiet lives, but they left a legacy of integrity and honesty that their friends and neighbors recognized and appreciated.

"Today, the crumbling ruins of the buildings stand as a monument to the American dream — simple, honest and hopeful." (Craig Daily Press, 2009)

PLEASE DO NOT EXPLORE THE HOMESTEADS UP CLOSE -- they are on private property! One can get very close, even staying outside the fense!

A bit more information on the family can be found here -- http://www.craigdailypress.com/news/2009/nov/21/moffat-county-history-martin-lukas-bohemian-homest/

Holy smokes this cache is out here! For the most part the road was well groomed and not much washboard which made for a quicker jaunt off route. Only people I passed on the road were hunters - thankfully I was in and out since I didn’t have any blaze orange attire. I would not have come so far off the highway for this cache if I didn’t need it to fill a DeLorme page (challenge) so I thank you for placing this one as there aren’t many options for page 14. Cache still looked brand new. Attached a couple photos of the pretty scenery.

Found GC70TD5 - Martin Lukas: A Bohemian homesteader, on November 10, 2017 using Cachly for iOS.

Some may call me seriously mentally ill. Some may state that I am in a state of mind that prevents social interaction. Some may say I am in a state of mind that prevents normal perception and or behavior. I prefer to say that I tend to do the same thing over and over again, but I expect different results. That being said, I believe we only live one life and I am trying to make the best of it. I thank you, momcheers for placing a fun geocache to fuel my "insanity" or addiction as I call it. I appreciate you bringing me here so that I can sign my alias on a piece of paper that you have hidden.

I look forward to finding more of your geocaches. I also look forward to potentially finding geocaches with you one day and sharing stories of our insanity... I mean hobby or addiction? Cheers!
