Juvenile bald eagles are a mixture of brown and white; with a black beak in young birds. The adult plumage develops when they are sexually mature. It takes about five years for their head and tail feathers to gradually turn white.

The young eagle will spend the next 4 years of its life wandering across eastern North America looking for summering and wintering areas where food is accessible. The mortality rate for eagles during their first year of life is greater than 50%, but once they have learned to hunt and forage successfully their chances of reaching adulthood are good.

When it begins to mature at age 4, an eagles seeks a mate and establishes a territory. The territory is usually located within 250 miles of the nest where the eagle was hatched. There, the new pair of eagles will construct their own nest but often don't produce eggs or young during their first year as a pair. They'll return in following years to raise young of their own.

No bald eagles were spotted but I did find a dragonfly with a missing wing!
I was in the area caching along the trails waiting for a response about another one of the C/O’s hides when I the way back to the vehicle I saw the way to the cache. With the sun setting and time running out(phone battery was at 9%) I hastily made my way to GZ. With the suns last rays fading out I saw something dangling and reflecting in the wind 50 ft away! Cache was in great condition except it was missing the log. I dropped a new one in.
The last time this cache was found was 4 years and 37 days ago! Only 5 months after I began this obsessive hobby!
This is the most lonely cache I’ve ever found in the city! Also got the Europa wonder! Thank you for the placement!

Out enjoying the sunshine with the Geodoodle today. Had some finds and some DNFs, but still a good day! Quite a few other people out and about today, but no so many that it was crowded.

There were a few people on the other side fishing from the river, but didn't seem to catch anything while I was getting the cache. Cute container! Looks like the watertight seal is gone, though. The log was dry, but a bit brittle. Thanks for placing this cache and for the lesson on bald eagles! Quite a few birdwatchers out today.

Found at 12:30 p.m., find no. 645.

10:57:00 AM Had a nice time on the Platte this morning. Road my road bike on the paved part, and then locked it up to go take a walk on the unpaved side of the Platte. Thanks! It was a wee bit warm, so I was happy to have placed ice cubes in my camelback this morning!

Tried to approach this one from the small park to the northwest. I was able to get within about 350' of GZ from there. However, there was a pretty high and fast river between with no bridge. I had to go around and find a way to approach from the other side. Picked up a couple of others along the way. I specifically chose this one because I was working on filling in some squares on my difficulty/terrain matrix. This is my first 2.5/3.

Thanks for another good cache.
