Three geocachers are discussing their favorite caches at
lunch one day when they receive an alert to a newly published
cache. Use the information on their favorites to determine where
the new cache is located.
The Geocacher family met for lunch one day when the topic of
favorite caches came up.
Johnny Geocacher listed the following caches as the three favorites
closest to his house:
- Howl at the Moon (GC13PDM): 6588 feet
- I Thought I Saw a Puddy Tat (GC34BWR): 9882 feet
- Rasher (GC2Y1X0): 8970
feet
Jackie Geocacher listed the following caches as the three favorites
closest to her house:
Joey Geocacher listed the following caches as the three favorites
closest to his house:
- Pope's Valley Surprise (GC38A5T): 3623 feet
- Earthcache (GC1KFKM):
2779 feet
- Surveyor's Delight (GC1MDB3): 324379 barleycorns
When the new cache posted, each of them reported the following
distances between their houses and the new cache:
- Johnny: 12059 feet
- Jackie: 7204 feet
- Joey: 2674 feet
Notes:
- There are plenty of ways to calculate distance over the earth's
surface. Since these can yield different results, I'll disclose
that I used Google Earth with default settings to calculate the
distances. Specifically, I used the Map Length from the Line Ruler
and rounded to the nearest foot.
- The Geocacher's 'houses' are not really houses in the real
world, but do correspond to large open spaces like parks. They
should stick out on a satellite image as different to what's around
them.
- The posted coordinates for non-traditional caches are the ones
to use for calculations - not the final coordinates.
- If you want to give hints to your fellow cachers, go ahead, but
please don't just give out the coordinates to the final.
- These caches are all on my favorites list. If one of these is
yours, thanks, I enjoyed it!
