Scenic view  Short hike (less than 1km)

NOTE: This used to be a multi-cache starting at the listed coordinates. Because of continual muggling of WP1 and evidence of homeless people living there I have revamped it slightly. Do NOT go to the listed coordinates - you won't find anything there. Instead start by solving the puzzle below.

There's something Red out there ... and it's up to you to find it.

In Tom Clancy's 1984 thriller The Hunt for Red October, CIA analyst Jack Ryan helps a Soviet submarine captain defect. This multicache will help you also find something Red, though a bit smaller than a ballistic missile submarine. What could it be?

- Red Lobster restaurant?
- Red Hot Chili Peppers album?
- Red Rocks amphitheatre?
- ... or something completely different?

To find Red, start with the QR code below. It contains a simple vigenere cipher and the coordinates to the next stage. You can either go to those coordinates to find the vigenere key OR you can try and break the vigenere cipher without the key (there's a pretty good hint to the key in the background image).

Congrats to Hartsdale for the FTF!

Yay! Here from KY. I started this one almost a year ago, but couldn’t find the second stage. I still couldn’t find the second stage today, but I taught myself something about this type of code and managed decipher the final coordinates. After some persistence I finally found the cache. Thanks for the fun!

Found it. Just in time, too! I was looking at the wrong “red” and ground zero coords were spot on, though the signal kept bouncing for a while. Thanks for the cache!

Fun multi cache with a few puzzles thrown in for extra fun. We had a little trouble finding stage 1, but the CO gave us a nudge and we soon had the coords for the final figured out. Container was on the ground so we rehid it in keeping with the hint. Thanks for the fun cache.

I finally finished this one up! I found the original stage 1 a long long time ago and lost the info so I had to start at the next stage. Couldnt find what was at the coords from the QR puzzle, so I guess I had to sit down and work out the puzzle the way it was intended. Got the first part of it fairly quickly as the first part of the puzzle revealed itself, and then guessed my way to the final coords! Came by today on a hike and spotted it rather quickly. The container is cracked very badly and there is no longer a lid, but I think the hiding spot is keeping it dry for now. Signed it and I was on my way out! On the way back to my car I even saw a Great Horned Owl. Will attach a picture or two! I've seen them before but not as close as I was today. Almost got within 15 or 20 feet until my dog growled at it and it retreated to a pine tree. Thanks for the fun cache!

Thanks for the fun puzzle! I was able to solve the puzzle on the page and save it for a rainy day, or snowy day... OK neither, but for another day none the less. Today was the day I was going to be in the area after work so I made this one my goal. I parked just above the cache at about 800' to GZ. After a short walk I found the cache pretty quick. Amazing coords for this one as I was standing on it when my GPS zeroed out! Everything is in great condition and dry. Signed and stamped the log and replaced as found. Thanks again for creating this one even though I wasn't able to complete the multi-part. Wink
