The Boys

This is a pretty simple hike. My grandsons 5 & 7 came with me to hide it and they both made the walk very easily.
DOG TAG CACHE

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE. IN ORDER TO TAKE YOUR DOG TO THIS CACHE, YOU MUST PARK IN THE LOCATION GIVEN IN THE ENCRYPTED MESSAGE. IF YOU PARK AT THE NATURE CENTER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE YOUR DOG WITH YOU. THE WALK ALONG THE CREEK IS THE BEST SO YOUR DOG CAN JUMP IN THE WATER. MY DOG IS A BLACK LAB AND IF HE COULDN'T JUMP IN THE WATER HE'D BE LOST ON THIS WALK.

I've had a lot of people telling me the cache needs maintenance. What it turns out to be is that a lot of visitors are taking whatever is "the good stuff" and either leaving nothing or leaving junk. Please always bring something with you that would make you happy if you found it. That way the cache has good stuff in it instead of junk. I will be going this next week to add some new journal booklets and pens. As far as the cameras go, I may or may not since a lot of them are used up by kids goofing off and taking pictures of their butt or some other weird stuff. Enjoy this cache, and remember that every cache is only as good as YOU want it to be.

After the last few visits to this cache I am real dissappointed by the low quality of the traded items being left in the cache. There are a lot of broken toys, used pencils, burger joint give-aways and such being dropped off. I'd sure like to see this cache get a good reputation for having real goodies in it, so if you have something a little nicer than the "junk" that's been going in there, please drop it off at the Dog Tag Cache. I know that may be a lot to ask, but I've taken my grandsons there every time they come to visit and they both remarked that there wasn't anything in the box they would even want. That's pretty sad.

This cache is somewhere along Fountain Creek just south of Colorado Springs and north of Fountain. There is a part of the Fountain Creek Trail along the way, so if you bring your dog remember that all pets must be on a leash while on the trail. Once you get off of the trail and down by the creek itself, you can let your buddy loose so he can get some exercise. My dog loves this place because he can run in the sand, collect sticks, and even jump in the water once in a while. He's the reason I thought of the dog tag theme.

This cache will have a double purpose. There will be items to give and take, but there will also be a theme which hopefully will just continue to grow and not shrink at all. Bring a dog tag, either from your pet, or one that you've either gotten while in the military or found somewhere along the path of life. There will be a long dog tag chain in the cache for you to add your tag to. Just put your tag on the chain so all of the writing on the tags face the same way. The goal here is to fill the entire chain with dog tags. Leave a story by email to the cache website telling about your pet or yourself if the dog tag was yours while in the military. I also have left another type of dog tag that many organizations are using as advertisements or registrations, so fell free to add something like that as well. If you don?t have a dog tag of any kind, but still want to add to the chain, add a key or a locket or something like that. If you bring a Travel Bug to the cache, please don?t put it on the chain or it might get stuck there. People who start Travel Bugs want them to keep moving, so just leave them loose in the container.

There will be a log book in the cache, so leave a note. I will also put a disposable camera in the cache from time to time. If it?s in there, take a photo of you and your family or dog if you bring him, and I?ll scan some of the photos after I get the camera developed to attach them to the log on the website. The cache includes some items included by my grandsons. They put in some keychains, some Hotwheels, a superball and a couple other kiddy things. It also includes a Golf Game for PC, 1/2 Gram of gold nuggets, mineral specimens, a $1 "where's george bill, 3 cards of jewelry pins, and a couple other goodies. I started it off with a new Travel Bug called the Ugly Roadrunner as well.

I have found three different Rabies Vaccination Dog Tags while either hiking or metal detecting. I?ve written to the Vet Clinics where each of the tags was issued to see if the dog who lost the tag was still listed. One of the tags I found was from Vicenza, Italy, which just happens to be where I was stationed with the Army from 1973-1976 and where my son was born while we were there. How small of a world is this anyway? Another was from Delphos, Ohio and was found in the dry lakebed in Prospect Lake, which shrunk drastically from the drought this past summer. Someone probably took their dog for a dip in the lake and he lost his tag while he was in the water. I found that tag with the metal detector and ended up writing to the owner of the dog. Maybe as part of this cache I?ll research a pet?s tag every now and then and see if I can find the dog who lost it.

Temporarily Disable Listing 06/20/2019 By IgnotusPeverell
Greetings Daddio, I'm IgnotusPeverell, one of the volunteer reviewers for caches submitted to Geocaching.com.

This cache was brought to my attention by one or more of your fellow cachers that think this cache is missing and/or in need of maintenance. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past, and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running again in the future. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give you the opportunity to check on the cache, and replace or repair it, if necessary. Cache Owner Responsibilities include monitoring logs for reported problems, updating any changes to the text or coordinates, removing Needs Maintenance attributes, marking trackables as missing if they are not in the geocache, enabling the listing, and more. If you feel you won't be able to maintain this geocache in a timely manner, you may post an update to the geocache page or you may archive it (this will keep the cache from continually showing up in search lists). Otherwise, it can be enabled once you have made repairs. Please use the "Write Note" feature to leave notes on the cache page. Please do not use the "OWNER MAINTENANCE" log until you do the maintenance, and the cache is ready to be found again.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to enable your cache, it will be no problem. You can re-enable the cache page by clicking the link under the cache name or by checking the box that says the cache is active. If a "Needs Maintenance" log was posted, you will also need to log an Owner Maintenance log to clear the "Needs Maintenance" icon from the geocache page.

Do not reply to this email. It is sent by a no-reply mailbot so I won't get it. To contact me with any questions or concerns about this geocache, please e-mail me directly at IgnotusPeverellReviewer@gmail.com, and reference this geocache with the GC number and/or link to the geocache page.

"If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived."

Additionally, please note that if I've not heard from you in 4 weeks, I may be forced to archive this cache. Don't let your cache get archived for non-communication

Thanks for your understanding,
