Another one in the sub series. Found these containers while cleaning the garage, and thought it would be better to put them out rather than disassemble them.

N40 AB.CDE W105 0G.HJK

Tang was ordered A5 December 1941

Tang was sunk by a circular run of her 2Bth and last torpedo on the morning of 25 October 1944.

When Tang sank, she went down in DC0 feet of water.

On her second war patrol, Tang rescued 2E downed airmen.

Tang was credited for G ships sunk on her third war patrol.

Tang sank a total of 11H,454 tons of shipping across her 5 war patrols

One of the 78 men lost was Rubin MacNiel Raiford, who at age 1J, may have been the youngest American serviceman to die in World War II.

Thirteen men escaped from the forward torpedo room of the submarine in the only known submarine escape using the Momsen lung in history. Of these 13, K were rescued and survived the war.

I love this series, and am happy to see more being placed. Since I found another cache down the road, I stopped by to find and sign the log on this one as well. Great history lesson; I was dimly familiar with the story of the USS Tang, but it was nice to get my memory refreshed. TFTC and gets a favorite point, too, as my Dad was in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. All was well here, and I do love the handmade containers.

[FTF] @0600 this morning on the way into work.

I have really enjoyed this series, speaks to my personal history as a former bubble head (you can take the boy out of the navy, but you can’t take the navy out of the boy).

Thanks for the hide, remember our lost brothers on eternal patrol. Gets the fav.
