This puzzle cache is about the USS Albacore, a Gato class submarine in service during World War II.

Found a couple of old containers I made for the sub series years ago when cleaning my family's garage, and decided to put them out.

N40 AB.CDE W105 FG.HJ(K+2)

Albacore's keel was laid on 2A April 1941

Albacore was armed with a Bofors B0 mm cannon

Albacore was numbered SS-21C

Albacore left on her second patrol on 1D November 1942 and was attacked by depth charges on 2E November

On 2F February 1943, Albacore sank Japanese destroyer Oshio and damaged a frigate

On 1G July 1943, Albacore claimed to have damaged a transport.

On 4 September 1943, Albacore encountered a two ship convoy escorted by H escorts, sinking a gunboat

The USS Albacore sank an aircraft carrier on 18 June 1944. During this encounter, the Torpedo Data Computer started giving bad information when the sub was J300 yards away, leading Commander Blanchard to fire 6 torpedos without it.

Albacore struck a mine and was lost on K November 1944. Her wreck was discovered in 2022, and confirmed to be Albacore in 2023.

[FTF] at 0930. I was just leaving work this morning when these new caches came across my e-mail. I sat down real quick and solved the puzzle. Thanks for the history of our brave brothers that are on Eternal Patrol. Let us never forget their sacrifice.

I have always enjoyed these tributes to submariners. Gets the favorite. Dipping my coins.
