On our quest to find WolfgangStiller's Sport's Timber Flume, GC2K5KW, we deliberately chose a different route than the one he suggested starting at the Clyde townsite on Old Stage Road. Instead, we drove up FS Road 376 nearly to the Colorado Springs Utilities gate, hoping to take 376A into the cache area from the north.

Road 376A joins 376 at N38 46.224 W105 01.120 and immediately presents its first obstacle - crossing Boehmer Creek. If you don't have a high-clearance 4WD vehicle, park here. With the right vehicle, you can cross the creek and proceed on the 4WD road (376A). A good parking spot, close to the ridge above the flume, would have been N38 45.866 W105 01.383. Unfortunately, Middle Beaver Creek proved to be the second and final obstacle for us. Water had spilled over 376A and had frozen into a huge sheet of ice and we were forced to park at the creek and walk the rest of the way. This would be an easy drive in the summer.

From the 2WD parking area before the stream crossing, expect an easy hike of about 1.1 miles and 700 feet elevation gain to the saddle above the flume (N38 45.611 W105 01.464). From this central point, it's time to choose - right to Défense de Flumer, left to Pas Défense de Flumer, or straight over the top to Sport's Timber Flume.

As you approach Défense de Flumer, please watch for parts of the barbed-wire fence that are lying near the ground and may not be very visible.

An unactivated geocoin awaits the First-to-Find.

***Congratulations to hartsdale for his FTF on 12/18/10***

I'm surprised no one has been here in over 3 years. I took a harder than necessary route to the cache. I parked at the 2WD spot and walked from there because I have seen this road before and knew I didn't want to drive it. I went all the way up to the top of the ridge on 376A to get the new cache up there. I thought it would be easy to follow the ridge but it was more of a bushwhack than I bargained for. After getting this one and its partner it was a nice walk back down to the 4WD parking coords. I was out of time so I didn't get to the Timber Flume today. TFTC

Not sure if we took the easy way to this one or not. We did not find a trail so is was cross country to GZ for this one. Interest placement for this cache, especially since we couldn't extract the container from the top, but we figured it out. TFTC.

We made it a little ways on the jeep road and then hoofed it to the cache site. Interesting area with all the dead trees. There must have been a fire through here many years ago. Thanks!
