Palmer Lake, Colorado

A short but darn steep hike up to a mountain top. Great views but may be less then fun in the snow. I've climbed it in fresh snow and made it to the top with only minor slips. However the cache is on the ground so snow my bury it pretty well. If you are going to look for it in the snow email me first and I can give you a good idea of where to dig.
What is a Thespian? Why is this cache on top of a mountain named after one?
A Thespian is someone who is involved in the theater. Once you've participated in a play or in an acting class you are eligible to join. So basically any actors/actress or stage hands can be Thespians.

So why is there a cache named after theater junkies on top a mountain? Well this is on Mt. Chautauqua which is named after Chautauqua’s that used to happen all over the country. These were retreats where historians would get together and work on historical interpretations of famous people’s lives. Basically they would study a person and then come up with a monolog where they portrayed them. They would then travel around performing these historical, informational, and entertaining monologues. Today there are still a few of these conferences around the country but none as famous as the original that was held at Lake Chautauqua in New York.

Well if you aren't into the theater and aren't into history then I'll just tell you that this is a great hike because it doesn't take much time but still provides a great workout.
To place this cache I crossed over at the first reservoir and went straight up. As the typical Geocaching story goes, once I was at the spot that I wanted to hide it I saw a trail that passed right by. You can get to this cache in many ways but if you want to take the "local's" trail I'll only give you a hint as to where the trailhead is. 100ft. from "Creak Side".

I felt like breaking out my inner Julie Andrews and going with the song of the hills are alive from the sound of music but thankfully I did not to spare everyone below in the valley. Tftc here

Growing up here and graduating from a local HS, I was always an orchestra geek (yay, bassoons!) and not a theater junkie. BigSmile But I can appreciate your passion!

Great day to be outside. I bushwhacked to Upper Reservoir fm the S side of the upper reservoir and then decided to grab this one on the way out to the trailhead. Cache is I great shape TNLNSL. TFTC!

Thanks for teaching me what a Chautauqua is about. Too bad the town of Palmer Lake was too noisy from the motorcycles to listen to anything sage the hills have to say. The cache is in great shape. TNLN

We hiked over to this cache on a nice trail after finding Upper Reservoir cache. We made a quick find and signed the log. Then we took the trail down to where we parked our car. Thanks to the CO for giving us an excuse to hike in this beautiful area.

RPieperco has been waiting for me to get back to head up this trail to get the next stage of a puzzle we are working on. Even though we struck out there the hike was a true Colorado hike and I loved it! I've missed playing in the mountains. Thanks for bringing us up here!

Thanks for the cache and fun hike! Headed up this way after work with CrumbCrunchers. Stopped for a multi stage and struck out. Then climbed the rest of the way to this one and made a pretty quick find. Signed log and rescued a TB. After we headed up a bit further to place a cache! Thanks for the great views and fun hike! Cache is in great condition!

I've been waiting for the right day to hike up & find these caches. Today worked out just great. Only Light skiffs of snow on the way up. I brought my ice trekkers but didn't need them as long as I was careful on the steep sections.

Took the trail that went right past it and signed the replacement log. Thanks also for the education. I thought that Thespians were only actors. Good to know that stagehands qualify as well and that Keanu Reeves still doesn't.

I read that the last cachers found the container broken and the log missing so i took a replacement container and log. I looked for several minutes to make sure the original was not near by and when i didn't find it I left my replacement.

An enjoyable hike on a nice cool but sunny afternoon this was my 301st find.

Steep hike, lovely view. Found an obvious cache site with plastic bits but no cache.
