Geocaching Colorado Geocache of the Month

July 2016 Geocaching Colorado Geocache of the Month

The cache is not at the listed coordinates. It is designed to be done at night.

This is a Bonus Cache. To find it, first find 66 Minutes To Midnight. In that logbook you will find the necessary information to find this cache. You are looking for a camo'ed film can containing a log and pencil.

Bring a powerful flashlight. A bright headlamp will work, but a AAA penlite probably won't. The entire cache is within the boundaries of Fox Run Park. The Park is open from 5 AM to 11 PM. From closest parking, expect a walk of less than 1 mile round trip.

Hiking off-trail through the forest at night can be very disorienting and there are no markers for the return trip. Make sure you have a spare light and know how to use your GPSr to return.

Delightful late night excursion with Flattered Crab, ScarlettSapphire and WithScarlettSapphire. Needed a hint to get started but then we were all set. Great cache!

A fun continuation of the nighttime adventures! From previous logs, we had some guesses as to what sort of mark we were looking for at the start, and we had some guesses as to where we might look, but we didn't properly put it all together until we got a hint from the CO. TFTC!

We made our way to GZ but needed a hint from the CO to get started. ??for another fun adventure.

After finding "66 Minutes to Midnight", we set out for the first stage of this bonus cache. We were stumped about how to proceed once we got there, so one of us asked the CO for a hint, which got us started. After that, we were able to complete and find this cache on our own. We found the final on the ground, so I used a key ring to re-attach it to its anchor point. Favorite point for another fun adventure.

After almost a 7 year hiatus, I redid the 66 Minutes multi to try to pick up this one for the ongoing Planets Souvenir Event. I came to the start point as listed in the previous cache, but could not illuminate a target despite multiple 360 degree searches, standing on the picnic table, and shifting positions slightly. After about 10 minutes of diligent searching, I headed 30 - 50' in each compass direction; trying to extended my light range. Even with these extended ranges, I was unable to illuminate a target. According to my fuzzy memory, my daughter and I had the same problem back in 2011 and she quickly lost patience. Back then, it was found a few weeks before my try and a few days later by Tom.Dog, although I didn't log a DNF because I was new to geocaching. I'm not new anymore, but I'm not sure what I'm missing and why I can't even get started on this cache. Regardless, it was a significant disappointment not come up empty again and not find the main cache that brought me out here this evening.

Stopped by today to see about the reports of multiple containers. I was surprised by the new construction within sight of the cache. I may need to move the final, but for now, it's ready to be found.

A night cache adventure has been in the planning stages for quite some time, so I was nearly devastated when I thought my flight back to CO was potentially going to be delayed/cancelled. Thankfully, everything worked out in the end and we arrived at the park just as night was falling! Got the first cache in this series easily enough, and LOVED the cleverness of the first stage of this one! What a fun little twist!! Took 2 trips to the site to find the way ahead (had to go back and retrieve a certain TOTT). Had a total blast wandering around for this one - favorite point! As RPieperCO mentioned, there were 2 containers out in the open (3 logs between them), so we ensured they were a bit better hidden as we left. Thanks for placing this one! :-)

Thanks for the continued adventure!

I headed to Denver to pick up Kerewin0430 from the airport from her return trip to TX. After a stop for dinner and a few caches we headed homeward. With the dying light of day it was the perfect opportunity to swing by here for some more caches. Night caches even!

After finding the original one we headed over to start this one on a direct path through the trees and hills! Once at the start we realized we did not have all the right tools. Doh!!! So back through the forest to the car. I grabbed my bag and decided to just drive back to the start of this one. Once back and with the right TOTT we were amazed at how bright this was! A quick plot of course and we were off!

Another great trail through the forest that followed really well. Didn't take us too long and there was the final! There are 2 containers at the final for this one. They were a little exposed. Found the original one and it had plenty of room to leave our signatures and stamps. Replaced a bit better than found!

Back to the car and one more cache yet to go for us!! Excellent cache! a perfect extension of the first! Thanks so much for these!

animjason asked me to attend an evening of finding a couple night caches that he has had on his list for too long. The weather was still in our favor to make it down here in the middle of November. Tonight was the official "super moon" and we had hoped to gain a little extra moon light in our adventure but it remained hidden behind the trees and or clouds.
animjason had only 9% battery when we started to drive down here. He forgot to plug in his phone while navigating to the park; he was left with 1% when we arrived. So it was up to me to use my phone to navigate. Unfortunately for both of us I didn't have a strong service to pull any caches in the area so we had to wait a little bit for them to pop on my phone. Once they did, I put my phone in airplane mode and off we went!

After completing the other night cache in the area, we made way to complete this AWESOME puzzle. We only got turned around once and had a hard time trying to locate the next marker. I enjoyed this night cache more than the other. Learned something new with this cache. I can only imagine how long it took for the first person to figure that out.

We both had a wonderful time walking through the woods trying to locate the next waypoint (surprised how many trees have been cut down over the years in here). animjason and I were chatting as we were stumbling over the tree stumps that if the zombie apocalypse was real, we would have become "walkers" for sure.

This cache might be in my top five caches I have found. For the smiles put on animjason's face and mine as well as the creativity, the time and effort to create and maintain this, you have earned a favorite point, hands down. If I could give you all my remaining favorite points, I would. Thanks, ernie66, I look forward to finding more of your caches.

Another amazing night cache that gets a fave. That was pretty sneaky and awesome. Had fun grabbing these with PMC. Dropping off a trackable that he already picked up.

Thanks ernie66! Logged 66 Minutes Past Midnight from a seventh galaxy using c:geo!
