You can park within feet of this cache but then look out in the middle of this beautiful lake and you'll notice an island...and maybe a bird or two or maybe hundreds. White pelicans, great blue herons, cormorants, ducks, geese and others are no strangers to this place, but come spring time this island is home to a colony of hundreds of bank swallows. They return year after year to this same place to nest, but even when they're not around you can see the many nesting cavities these little guys have made by themselves, some 4 to 5ft deep. Pretty amazing chore for the smallest swallow in North America. Bring the binocs and who knows what you might see!
