Cowboy had been following a rogue cougar who was a menace to local ranchers. The cougar was becoming too bold and would come near ranch houses in broad daylight looking for a meal. Some ranchers said the cougar walked with a limp. Perhaps it had been caught in a trap and escaped. Or maybe it had an infected foot. At any rate there was a $100 reward for anyone who killed the offending cat.,Cowboy had been tracking the cougar from Crow Canyon, where it had just fed on a fresh deer kill ,to just north of Cortez when Cowboy lost the track. Cowboy was off his horse and down on his knees tracing the path of the cougar from one foot print to another in the soft soil among the sagebrush bushes. He knew the cat must be near as he could almost smell it. Just then Cowboy's new horse, Jack, spooked and nearly jerked the reins from Cowboy's hand. When Cowboy started to rise from a crouch, he saw a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye. The cat had lunged at him and Cowboy drew his revolver by instinct. Before Cowboy could fire, a shot rang out. The cougar was hit in midair and fell dead at Cowboy's feet. Cowboy's good friend, Shane Kody, rode up with smoke still coming out of the barrel of his rifle. Shane said, "I figured you might need some help". "Thanks", said Cowboy, "You saved my bacon today. I owe you one". They loaded up the cat and headed to town to collect the reward.
The cache is a small camo vial with log. This is a cache for those who like the challenge of finding caches, not for those who want SWAG or for the kids. BYOP and TOT to remove the log.
05/03/2019 By IdaLabs We're on a trip from Michigan to see the Grand Canyon with many stops along the way. Spending a couple of days in Cortez to see Mesa Verde and rest up, so we had to grab a few cache. Nice series. Would love to see a cougar in the wild - just not up close :)
