Large cache placed near the Upper Reservoir.

Legend tells of a small group of pioneers who once attempted to cross this part of the front range by means of the North Monument Creek Canyon. They attempted their crossing in the middle of winter (did they learn anything from their friends the Donners???), and, knowing how unpredictable Colorado weather is, they were met by a hefty blizzard. They made camp that night in the area of the Upper Reservoir before returning to Palmer Lake the next day. Upon their return to the small town, they realized that they had left behind a box filled with many timeless heirlooms which they called "Travel Bugs." They gave up hope of returning to the camp to search for the box, and crossed the mountains by means of another path. As time progressed, many treasure hunters have searched the mountains surrounding the Upper Reservoir, but have never been able to find the pioneers' lost possessions.

However, as I busied myself with studying in the Palmer Lake library for the upcoming first semester finals, I picked up an old, worn out book from the shelves. It described the tale which you have just read, and it included a set of numbers. I immediately recognized them as coordinates, and they may just lead to the pioneer camp. While I must get on with the books, I hope that a few adventurous geocachers may take the time to wander up the trail and search around for the lost Travel Bugs at the long-forgotten camp.

----------

The hike to the cache is about 3 miles round trip. There will be some scrambling/bouldering required to get to the cache, but nothing too dangerous. However, please note the 4 terrain. You will be searching for a 50 cal. ammo can.

Good luck and have fun!

 Hints

There are two ways to get to the cache.
1. Scramble up a steep, narrow dirt ramp between two large boulders. At the top you will find the cache.
2. A little bit harder than #1: hop up some 4-5ft. boulders to the South of the ramp. You can then hop your way around to the cache.
Check out the spoiler photos for more help.

Bit of a climb up to this one. Was about to make a wrong treacherous climb up a bank when I spotted the cache just off to the side. Dropped a couple of TBs

Ugh; an ATV was riding around the lake and smushed a chipmonk. Grrr. The dust and noise is gross enough, but running over wildlife is sad.

Lots of trees have been felled near GZ, I suppose for beetle outbreak control, but it's still approachable. My GPS froze 120' from the cache, but a survey of nice hiding spots eventually lead to the huzzah. T: MtG coin L: small crystal

Super fun! Moving one of the trackables to a new location. Loved the Boulder scramble.
(Wish our GPS would stop being 20+ ft off, just one of those days.)

Out for an early Saturday morning hike to go after a FTF, trade some trackables, and explore these beautiful trails with just a dusting of snow on them. All containers and logs were in great shape and ready for signing. Good climb to get up to this one! Traded 3 trackables and discovered the other 2 in the container. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
