Established in the 1870s, a small town thrived here, serving the nearby ATSF railroad. Named 'Swallows' for the cliff swallows that inhabited the cliffs that overlooked it on both sides of the nearby Arkansas River. It was destroyed by the 1921 flood that also devasted Pueblo, but a small community of families remained in the surrounding area. We are acquainted with an elderly woman who lived there in the 1940s-50s. In the 1970s a dam on the Arkansas a few miles down stream flooded the valley. The cemetery was moved to the top of a bluff and still exists nearby. All that remains of Swallows are the graves, the view out across the River and the name.

The trail up to the location is obvious, but requires a bit of a climb up a slope. The cache location affords a lovely, 360 degree view. BYOP.

Had the same issue as anssouth getting a hold of the container. Lots of cactus needles. I'd like to see this overlook all fixed back up. Sad that everyone destroys everything.
