Another ghost town. Hadn't been found in awhile so I checked on it. Its there. I enformed the neighbors so some of them are in the fun.
Imagine a town large enough to need and justify the size of the YMCA building across the street. This was no little podunk town back in those early years.
Thousands of people lived here and shopped here and went to school.
The very first resident was William May a fellow who'd been flooded out twice before in Penrose and Hardscrabble. Choosing to build on higher ground he used cottonwood trees for this cabin. Small gun holes were cut out on the other side of the building. (Remains can be seen) He ranched in undisturbed bachelorhood in 1866 little knowing the millions of tons of coal that lay underneath him. He got along well with the Utes who frequently passed through his pastures. They never failed to close his gates which was more than he could say for some whites. When coal was discovered he became a partner with the Rockafellows (relative of the well known ones)
Mr May was a much loved resident of the area. He died, still single, in 1888 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery (where there are 2 geocaches)Funds are being raised (at this writing) to repair his tombstone.

Out with audeidian on International Geocaching Day. Back on 01/16/2014 with Magpiex5 took a look for the cache, before we looked to long a nearby home owner showed us the old Rockvale Bakery at his house. Very interesting cache location with the cords showing 3 feet, just stuck up in a good little spot. SL. TFTC.
