Dakota Ridge # 2

hartsdale got the FTF

A series of caches along the Dakota Ridge Trail in the Skyline Drive and Cañon City Hogbacks Open Space area. This is a relatively new trail with spectacular views in all directions. This series is not recommended for the severely acrophobic or toddlers. There are steep drop-offs, loose rocks, cacti, and the usual critters common in this area. You may see extreme mountain bikers on the trail.

The closest parking is the Skyline Drive Parking waypoint. The Dakota Ridge Trail starts there. The trail can also be accessed from the Washington Street Trailhead waypoint if you don't want to drive over Skyline Drive. You will have a longer and steeper hike from there. Take Greenhorn Trail to Old Skyline Drive Trail and follow it to the top. You can then descend via Dakota Ridge Trail.

The Hogbacks Open Space is closed from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. Skyline Drive is closed at night and during inclement weather. Skyline Drive is a narrow one-way road with steep drop offs. It exits in Cañon City.

All the caches are near the trail. Please do not try to bushwhack directly to any of these. You will damage the fragile ecosystem and it could be dangerous.

This is a regular sized container with room for trackables and swag. There is a nice FTF prize.

Be sure and grab the clue for Dakota Ridge # 4

Oh boy this cache got me in trouble! Lemonheadmafia took one look and said "nope" I went for it anyway. Once I came back up he said he will be adding rope to my pack before the next hike. I still got the clue and a smiley so all is good. Tftc!

Hi - date is approximate since we had really sketchy internet service during our recent visit to the Colo Springs area & I'm late-logging.
I had two very nice days to visit down to Canyon City- interrupted by that mini-blizzard that rolled thru ! Found a lot of caches including some challenges, & a multi with a choice D/T combo for filling a space in an all-multi fizzy grid.

I really enjoyed the series along the ridge, but a coughing fit due to past medical stuff made me a bit glad for the blizzard-break of a couple days in my schedule !! I think some more Woodstock-bound TB's may have been up this way too.

Wow, I’d have to say that hint has been the most accurate hint I’ve read thus far. You knew exactly what I was thinking. Nice cache location.

It was a beautiful day today and I decided to take advantage by hiking on Skyline Drive and checking all my caches up there. This cache is in perfect condition and is waiting patiently to be found. Cache on!
