The Black Period (Spanish: Periodo Negro) is a term used to define the work produced by Spanish painter Pablo Picasso during the first week of October in the year 1906, when he painted a monochromatic painting in the shade of black. This somber work, inspired by Spain but painted in Paris, is now his most unpopular work. It is now the only key to finding this Geocache.

The blackest of blacks is what creates the blackness of the Black Period. This painting is titled, "Blackness".

A famous Comedian is often misquoted as referring to Picasso's Black Period as “Blackity-Black-Black. Filled with Blackness. Devoid of all light! Think of the blackest thing you can imagine and double that blackness and take a black magic marker and fill in the gaps and put that into a black rocket ship and shoot that into the depths of black space and close your eyes and use that as a reference.”

An easy puzzle with a fun hike and amazing view; bring your camera! Below is a picture I took near the cache site. As you can see; it is very steep. I highly recommend bringing a friend along for this retrieval. Ropes are not required, but may be nice to have depending on weather and your personal abilities. Also, the cache is made entirely from CITO items we found on our hike. If you feel inclined to replace it with something better; you have my blessing!

Thanks to Of-Erad for his help while I placed this cache.

***Congrats to hiking_fool for the FTF! Glad you are safe but sorry about your Nuvi :(***

Hiking back to the car after the Let's Go For A Hike 15 event. Had the coordinates for this puzzle cache in the GPS and some advice provided by a cacher at the event. The scramble down to the cache really wasn't all that bad, but the hide was tough depending on your point of view. Signed log under one signature from 2014 and three signatures from 2017. Thanks for the fun puzzle cache.

TFTC grabbed a few caches while I am around. Boy this was sketchy getting down there. If it was for the rope being tied to a tree with a few extra anchors than I would not have gone to get this one. Interesting I only saw one other signature on the cache back from 2014.

Set out with Ghostsoldier, K9jayhawk to grab 4 paws and this one on our way back. K9 brought the correct equipment and the find was made but the last date on the log was2014. TFTC

Picked up with Ghostsoldier and DustyKat on the way back from Four Paws. We came prepared with the right equipment and sent the trunkmonkey down the rope to the cache location. It was a quick find although the one and only signature on the container/log we found was from 2014...TFTC SL

Attended the event DGS: Climb & Cache St Marys Falls and picked up a few caches along the way. Saw some familiar faces and met a few new ones as well. I LOVED THIS HIKE! It was a good workout, gorgeous views the entire way and reaching the falls at the top was a great payout. Relaxed for awhile laying on the rocks while listening to the water...so beautiful and serene. Gotta love Colorado!
WOW!!... this smiley is thanks to the crazy mountain climbing skills of HandyHomestead! TFTC!
