BLM Passport Series consists of 9 caches that will take you to a variety of unique locations across Mofatt County. Each cache in the series includes a stamp for you to stamp your BLM Passport. More information is ~COMING SOON~ on the Passport (look for an update once all 9 caches are active).

The Yampa River which is one of the last major tributaries of the mighty Colorado River that supports rare plant communities and 4 endangered fish flows through a scenic canyon at this point known as the Little Yampa Canyon. The rock strata which make up the walls and floor of this canyon were laid down during the Cretaceous period which lasted from 145.5 to 65.5 million years ago. The North American continent was split in two by the Western Interior Sea during this era. It was a warm tropical shallow sea rich in marine life. There is much evidence of these life forms left behind in the form of fossils and the limestone rock.

The cache is best accessed off of BLM road 1665B which is a fair weather road at best. A medium ground clearance vehicle is needed to reach this point. It is also a great hike with awesome views and abundant wildlife and unique plants along the way. Several BLM roads wind around Little Juniper Mountain here and all are scenic. BLM road 1665B is best accessed off of Moffat County road 74 which in turn can be accessed from State Highway 40 at waypoint N40 29.993 W108 1.080. The turn off to find BLM road 1665B from county road 74 is at waypoint N29 29.218 W107 59.664. Please "Stay the Trail". Leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but pictures.

Wow! What a climb to a gorgeous view!! We've wanted this one for awhile -- worth the view! Wish the letterbox stamp was more personalized like the Duffy Mtn one :-)

Unable to find this one today. After reading other logs, it appears I did not go high enough. Not sure if I will return.

We had to come back to this one and brought some friends (the Sadvar family) to help search. We had to go way higher than the cords were taking us. The terrain is pretty steep (terrain should have more stars) and you definitely need a short wheel based vehicle to go all the way down there. We decided to park at a campsite that was close and we're glad we did because our truck is too big to turn around down there. This is our first BLM cache! Awesome view!
