This is a micro with a small puzzle included at no extra price. It's not difficult and should be almost a grab and go. The thing you'll need to watch out for is occasional muggles driving this road.

Hickory Flats

Oak Creek has a colorful history. It was much larger than nearby Steamboat Springs and home to the coal miners - men who made a meager living in the nearby coal mines. One of the most notorious areas in Oak Creek at the turn of the century was Hickory Flats. It had gambling, bootlegging, and women of dubious virtue.

The Town Marshal left this area to its own. There have been numerous tales of bodies placed on or beside the railroad track or dumped in the ditch between the track and the road. Old Timers swear that bodies were buried in the ditch and never found. You are standing in what was Hickory Flats. If you look carefully around this area you’ll see the remains of very old, tiny, tumble-down shacks. These were called “cribs” and they were typically one room buildings rented out to women of the evening to conduct their business in.

Oak Creek was a rough and dangerous town back then. It wasn’t a place for the meek and genteel – but then towns like this are the ones that made the West interesting.

This cache owes special thanks to Mike Yurich of Oak Creek for historical information. Thanks Mike!

Probably should have found this quicker... but it was a fun hide to discover and recover! Only muggle to interrupt my search was a local police officer driving by... he stopped to ask what I was doing... but he ended up being a geocacher too.
