The terrain might be a 4 but the view is a 5+. I can see my home from here, you might be able to see yours too. From the top you have a clear view of Mt. Sopris, Aspen Mtn. and the Maroon Bells, not to mention the entire Grand Valley.
The cache is placed in a scrub oak at the peak of this point. You might want to hang on to one of the scrub oaks when signing the log, the drop-off is about 2000' and vertigo might be a problem.
The JQS Trail is the best way up and it's maintained during the summer and fall months, a high clearance vehicle is not necessary, although, drop-offs abound at every turn. The area is not accessible in the winter or spring.
The hike up to the cache isn't very long but it requires bushwacking through thick aspens and oaks, lots of fun!
Congratulations to Polaski on the FTF! And, thanks for the recovery. The wind blew hard right after it was placed, I had visions of it laying somewhere in Rulison. (8O)

07/08/2011 By teamexplorers Ok this one was interesting not so much the Geo it self but getting there and getting down. Got bit by snake on way up, started raining, found Geo headed down,(slid down most of the way) oh and there is no log in Geocache. Almost got stuck heading to JQS but if anyone knows the area you do not head to JQS if it is raining. There was a break in the rain so headed down JQS bad idea sliding all over so stopped and camped out on the side of the hill. Great Geocaching day for the memories.

09/17/2009 By pakapat This one was very interesting for me. I had not been up there for years and was hoping that the evidence was still there. As you are going up the side of the hill, pay very close attention to the trails. If you follow the trails in an uphill direction, you will find that it is a pattern of switchbacks from the bottom all the way to the top. Upon closer inspection you will see old benches for resting still in place. In the late '70s and early 80s there was a well maintained trail to the top of East Anvil, complete with an observation platform out OVER the edge of the cliff!! What a RUSH! I am sure it was removed for obvious liability reasons and I cannot remember what group did the trail. One more thing that has dropped by the wayside over the years. Forgot my pencil so I scratched an X and a P on the log with a key. Hope that works.
