Cache-n-dash along a dirt road in Greenland/Larkspur

Inspired in part by Tom.Dog’s American Wildlife series. That, and he already has a “Pronghorn” cache- let’s do one about the pronghorn’s now extinct predator!

For others in the zoology series, see  GC2VGB6 Xenarthra  (adopted by Misery68) and GC4QB47 Grus canadensis.

During the Pleistocene era, a cheetah-like cat stalked the Great Plains.  This huge cat is presumed to have been more closely related to the puma than to modern African cheetahs, though they did have similar characteristics, including incredible speeds.  They counted pronghorn among their prey animals, and were the only North American predator able to match a pronghorn’s 60MPH speeds.

Can you imagine a cat able to chase down a car doing the 55 MPH speed limit?  Nevermind. This is Colorado- everyone does 90 in the 55 zones.

Anyhoo, this is an area these magnificent cats once roamed. Some of the local fossils (and Larkspur has plenty) might even be cheetah remains.

Cache is a small pill bottle. Please bring a pen.

Congrats to JC's Girl for the FTF!

Nicely done. Signed log.

Thanks Thystle for giving me a reason to get outside. It’s always worth it when you are enjoying nature. There is nothing better than acting like a kid again, digging through weeds and climbing trees, all to sign my name on a piece of paper.

Found with Cachly for IOS.

Today, after the CITO, I cached around the Larkspur/Palmer Lake/Monument area. There are several caches around that I haven't grabbed and this was the day to change that. During my journey I was enchanted by big blue skies and beautiful views of the mountains.
I have several caches in Pronghorn Natural Area which is east of Aurora, Colorado. Happy to report no Miracinonyx sightings there or here. TFTC!

Wow, another beautiful view! Had to take a 360 video while I was here. Such almost untouched (power poles) land. Hardly ever seen anymore around here. Tftc

Just a few feet from the last one which was pretty easy we actually could have walked here I think instead of driving. But we drove anyway. Most of the camo is gone on this peanut butter jar. Happy caching.
