Welcome to GC7DEYX Queen of the Rockies Letterbox Hybrid cache. Mounted and dismounted GPS assisted, terrain association, and orienteering navigation techniques will be required to reach the final. Please be prepared for terrain and weather conditions typical with this part of the Rocky Mountains. Note the listed attributes.
During my geo-travels across the continent, I have seen many "tribute caches" placed to honor a geocacher. I have always thought about placing some tribute caches, but in the end, decided against it. In my opinion, a proper tribute cache would require something special that captures the essence of the named geocacher’s geo-personality. This can be a difficult and time intensive task. For example, I can think of at least one cacher I considered doing a tribute cache for. In her case, to do it right; I would have to make a placement requiring you to hike to Antarctica and back, make a challenge requiring you to collect Eagle tail feathers, and poke a bear with a stick to retrieve the final container. Perhaps even more difficult, I would be forced to require finders to learn to fly a high performance, transport aircraft without ever bothering to certify on its most important function…to drop paratroopers. However, this cacher did earn the epitaph “Queen of the Rockies” for her propensity to hike, crawl, drive, and climb all over the Rocky Mountains. Somehow packaging all of that into a single cache seemed like too much work.
In order to reach the Queen’s Throne (the final), cachers will have to navigate to and find a container at the posted coordinates, two waypoints and a final…the Queen’s Throne. Each stop will provide either coordinates or orienteering instructions to your next stop. Cachers will be required to determine when to use mounted or dismounted movement, select their own parking and dismount points, and employ different navigation, search and measurement techniques. The straight line distance between all points is 2.27 miles; but you will not be able to travel in a straight line. The cache is designed to accommodate both 2WD and 4WD vehicles, although 2WD drivers may have to hike a bit more
Good Luck and enjoy the hike, hunt, and navigating.
Posted: Micro under a roof near the Little Eddy Mine. Knee to Chest high.
Waypoint 1: Small, rock crack.
Waypoint 2: Small.
Final: When you see Spoiler Photo 1, the throne is approximately 78 feet straight ahead. If you see Spoiler Photo 2, you have drifted too far to your right. If you have fallen 30 feet or more, you have drifted too far to your left.

11/30/2017 By COpackrat Had a nice walk to the Queen's throne today - the forest here makes for pleasant hiking. This was a nicely done letterbox hybrid, and I especially appreciated the included information for the final - I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get close enough with the information at WP2 to make the find. Thanks for a very nice tribute to the local Queen!!
11/11/2017 By hartsdale This was a pretty straight forward LBH.
All coordinates checked out perfectly and I had 9ft+/- at the final.
Nice to find this size of container out in the middle of nowhere.
I signed the log as a betta tester and left a small note to say so, as to not ruin the fun. ( hopefully )
Thanks again for all the work to get these containers for everyone to hunt for!
I almost forgot happy Veterans Day, so thanks again.

11/06/2017 By estes01 Finally the Queen of the Rockies was able to arrange a time with Her Privy Council to claim Her tribute cache. We were all a bit nervous upon arriving at the posted coords as we had some difficulty finding it. We're still not sure why. I was very relieved when Lord Ernie of 66 found it, and was already figuring out how Lord GoMRT could deliver the bad news to the CO.
Excellent driving by Lord Ernie and his spacious Sequoia got us to the end of all drivable roads. The Queen originally planned to take Her royal electric blue Xterra, but as we were celebrating Her birthday we felt that She should be chauffeured. Her backseat navigating skills are second to none and no less impressive (but less scary) than Her driver's seat multitasking skills.
Waypoint 1 and 2 didn't provide any unnecessary challenge and I loved the walk through the woods and wonderful scenery. Thanks to the CO for providing Spoiler #1 and 2 (which Lord GoMRT likened to a broken finger, but I disagree) to keep us on track.
Upon arriving at Her tribute we were all astonished that the Prime Minister had already signed the log on Her behalf until She could set Her official seal to it. Very kind of him!
I'm going to run out of favorite points before I finish all these tributes.
11/06/2017 By ernie66 I was part of the queen's hunting party today and enjoyed the pleasant walk in the woods while trailing a respectful distance behind the queen and her huntsman. Upon reaching her majestic throne at the final stop, she was well pleased with the view of her realm.
But before that ... we had come across a clue requiring complex calculations using obscure French measuring units and dead reckoning direction finding. The queen herself was well acquainted with the method of measurement and pointed the way for us to proceed.
But before that ... of course, there was crafty Little Eddy. Walls had been left to crumble over time after the abode had been abandoned some years prior. Perhaps during the War of the Wild Roses. Little Eddy (more respectfully known as King Edward IV) overcame this and other challenges early in his reign but his magnificent granite and quartz castle was lost due to damage from the numerous battles. Before leaving it for good, the king had stashed a clue in the ruins pointing the way to his new palace complex, knowing that one day, his descendant Wings would inherit the kingdom.
But before that ... Wings was preoccupied with her high-performance transport aircraft but was still able to arrange her busy schedule to allow us to accompany her on her voyage of discovery while affording us an opportunity to surprise her with a huge birthday gala. It cost a king's ransom and Lord Ernie forgot to bring a cutting tool, but the celebration was a magnificent success!
Well-crafted, subject K Trackers, well-crafted.
11/06/2017 By GoMRT Was with the Queen of the Rockies, E66, and Valkyrie01 today when we were able to grab a carriage ride up Rampart Range Rd on a delightfully sunny day with a bit of a chill in the air due to the impending cold weather soon to arrive. The four of us mounted up and made way to the first stop after a most interesting ride down into the valley of Lost Eddy. Quite the interesting location for Eddy given the geology of the area. After much searching, success was had in getting the first nugget of info! Using that, data was input into the carriage's flight computer and away we went back topside.
Making way to the second way point was not difficult, but the find was even better at that viewpoint (which some of us were more enthralled with the view and the nearby marker while one kept the team on track by finding the data). That data was input into the flight computer and down the way we go!!
Tying off the carriage to the nearest hitching post, we mounted up again for what appeared to the long and winding way to the next waypoint. Rocks here, downfall there, a creek over there and through the woods we went. Spread out like a picket line as we walked through the woods, we made the last waypoint in good time and was able to find it with a smile knowing we're close! Taking that info, we were able to mount again and make way to the final! The Queen was looking forward to seeing her castle like viewpoint!
Following the directions as directed, we made our way ensuring we stayed on track. On wrong move and you could be way off course and none for the better. Using the photographic data that was provided to the Queen for the journey, we made sure to be alert to changing conditions and topography.
Upon arrival at the GZ, the Queen and crew went into seek and ye shall find mode. The fever pitch was high with excitement as the view was breathtaking. The Queen was able to make her find with a smile and good cheer! She pronounced the cache as sacred ground and it should be enjoyed by all in her kingdom for generations to come.
And somewhere in the distance, you could hear the theme to the Mickey Mouse club being sung!!
