Officially called Isak Heartstone, this giant sculpture was created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, a renowned creator known for making trolls installations around the globe. They each vary in design and size, often working to capture some aspect of the local culture. This one is building stone cairns, a feature often found on high-altitude trails in the local area. The cairns are used as a guiding tool for hikers.

It’s also worth noting that Thomas Dambo tends to make his trolls out of recycled material. Isak Heartstone was made out of scrap lumber and downed trees found along the trail during a 10-day construction process.

While Dambo’s trolls can be found far-and-wide – 39 total, this is the first one that he’s installed in the western United States. It was officially installed on August 9, 2018 as a continually running trail-art exhibit. You can find a few of his other trolls in Denmark, Korea, and Chicago, among other places.

You’ll find this art installation on the East Wellington Trail near French Creek. The trail is beginner-level and family-friendly, but be warned that altitude sickness can still be a concern due to Breckenridge’s high-altitude of 9,600 feet. The trail is dog-friendly, so if you’re visiting with the pup, pick up the poo. Respect the area by following the rules of Leave No Trace.

The cache is a black bison tube hanging in one of the small pine trees just to the east of the troll. The cache is about chest high. Please respect the tree and unscrew the tube instead of removing it completly. For the newbies, please roll up the log and put it in the cap before sliding the body over the tube.

I am rating the difficulty of this cache high becasue of the extremely high muggle concentration. You will need to use extreme stelth in claiming this cache.

Found it, I found the log papers first because they were on the ground not even inside the bison tube. But I signed it and put the papers in where they go and it’s all good to go. Tftc

When I read about the Troll I thought what a great place for a geocache! I was not disappointed. Very busy sunny Sunday afternoon with many people visiting the site. Took me a couple of tries to find the cache but I made the find. If you visit the Troll please use the free bus and respect the privacy of the Troll’s neighbors. TFTC

I had the very thought of hiding a cache here when the troll was first erected. I’m glad to see one was put here to bring cachers to the amazing piece of art. I got this one today with Wisewarrior and Littlehawk. TFTC

I cannot believe I am the FTF on this. My family and I were in Breck for a week and went to see the troll. Literally JUST started geocaching this week when I found one by accident. Found this one before upgrading to premium and didnt realize it was recently placed. Good spot too. :) didnt have a pen but I'll be back.
