It's an easy hike through the mining area trails up East 12th, 8th or 9th streets in Leadville. If you hike via the trails you will have an easy stream crossing. You may reach the cache via the Mineral Belt Trail (MBT) walking/cycling or via 4WD or ATV up 12th. Motorized arrivals will be stopped at the gate as motorized vehicles are not allowed on the MBT. More than likely the cache will not be available after 10" of snow has fallen.
Our theme for 2016 is "Live Life Like Someone Left the Gate Open." Some of our most fun adventures have begun by entering a gate. We found this gate while snowshoeing above Leadville. It's an easy hike through the mining area trails up East 12th, 8th or 9th streets. If you take the trails, there will be an easy stream crossing. You may reach the site via the Mineral Belt Trail (MBT) or via 4WD or ATV up 12th to the dirt road. Motorized arrivals will be stopped at the gate as motorized vehicles are not allowed on the MBT. More than likely the cache will not be available when more than 10" of snow are on the ground.
The trails do not receive much traffic and you are down the slope off the MBT to avoid muggles.
The initial cache contains a gift card to our favorite local coffee shop for the First to fFnd. Additionally, log, pen, pink boxing glove key chains to celebrate our 20th year of cancer survivor, army men to honor our nephew serving in the army, and a trackable are in the regular sized cache.
There is much history in the area. This particular gulch, Evans Gulch, contains several mines. See the photo for the historical information.
CONGRATULATIONS to LEADROCK FTF! We were getting worried that something happened to it. UPDATE JULY 19, 2017: WE ARE SO SORRY ABOUT THE ANTS. WE WILL BE BACK UP SEPTEMBER 1ST TO CHECK. IF IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF ANT BED, WE'LL RELOCATE. DO APOLOGIZE.
