From the Indian Creek TH on CO 67 ($6 parking fee) 10 miles west of Sedalia, this cache is about 2 miles away on the Ringtail Trail. Start on Indian Creek #800 right at the parking lot. When it hits the old dump road (closed to motor vehicles) go straight across to the Ringtail Trail and further up from there. This is a full size ammo can.

Before the advent of the internal combustion engine just slightly more than 100 years ago, folks relied on horses and mules for transportation both riding and pulling buggies and wagons. Then, before the mountain bike about 35 years ago, the only folks on trails were hikers and horseback riders. Now when we pass folks on our horses, many have never seen one up close. Some are interested and friendly, others are afraid or unsure how to approach our docile, prey (vegan) animals who can be startled sometimes by unexpected movement (dogs and humans are preditors). Unfortunately a few are visibly perturbed for various reasons and sometimes work actively to eliminate horse access from even the most historic trails. This makes me sad that the disconnect has come so swiftly.

Here is a poem from a piece of art I purchased many years ago at Cheyenne Frontier Days. It says exactly what I feel:

They Rode Good Horses

by Don Bishop

As they rode into the twentieth century, the farthest

they'd seen was from the highest hill they'd climbed on a horse.

The farthest they'd traveled was as far as a good horse could

take them. The earth turned because horses pulled their plows.

Horses helped them reach their horizons and their dreams.

One hundred years later, for a lucky few, that hasn't changed.

I count myself to be one of those lucky few. I hope you enjoy this trail and finding this cache. I have two more further down the same trail.

Found the Handbag Coin on 5/26. Going to take it to it’s new home.

Out for a day hike with a bunch of friends and needed a quick one along the way. Problem was I thought I had loaded a few from this area into my gps but alas they were somewhere else. No problem I have my phone, again without signal it is just added weight to the pack. Except this cache and this location I had 1 bar. Just enough to get the mark on the log sheet. Love big containers in the woods. Also did a TB drop. TFTC SL

We took our annual ride to do maintenance on my caches on the Ringtail Trail. Since this is a regular ammo can it was still in good condition but had once again maybe migrated a few feet and looked like it had been visited by some elk hunters based on the empty bottle of scent they had left in the container, which I removed. I returned it to it's proper hiding spot.

We finally dragged the trailer and horses up here to ride and find a couple of BCH's caches. The weather was perfect for us and the trails were damp enough not to be dusty. Ladybugs and butterflies everywhere on the many wildflowers that are blooming. Had no trouble finding this cache. Everything was in great shape and lots of fun swag. Took nothing, left grooming tool, signed log. Thanks for placing this cache so that we can play!

A very long, beautiful hike for my young friend Lindsey and myself but well worth it.
