Another pumpkin cache, just in time for Halloween! Plenty of room to pull over on the east shoulder. Pull way over, lot's of traffic on this road at certain times of the day. This cache was placed above a spot where a 20" natural gas line was bored through a sandstone outcropping. Most of the time, pipe lines are laid in open trenches, bedded with screened material and backfilled. In years past, lines that could not be buried, because of rocky material, were either laid in shallow trenches and covered, or just left laying above the ground. Now huge machines can bore through rocky material using long lengths of drill pipe and giant bits. Once the hole is drilled, the machine then pulls the pipe back through the bored hole. This spot is just one of hundreds of bores that have been bored throughout Western Colorado as part of the oil & gas pipeline collection system.
