Easy hike from Subdivision trailhead, or Breakneck Pass RoadPlastic jar with Yellow lid. Contains TB, keychain, magnet, golf ball and normal cache trinkets
A note about WARM SPRINS SUBDIVISION. Warm Springs is a gated, private mountain community which borders the Pike National Forest. When the entry gates are working, access is limited to residents, or those with the gate code. Each of the 5 Warms Springs caches are accessible with moderate hikes from Breakneck Pass Road (Pike National Forest Road # 175) in the Pike National Forest.
Breakneck Pass road is accessed by taking US Hwy 285 south of Fairplay past Mile Marker 179, to the well marked turn off to Weston Pass (Park County 5). Take Park County 5 1.7 miles (Across two cattle guards), then make a right turn (actually this is the very first right turn opportunity once you enter Park County 5) onto Breakneck Pass Road. This road is very rocky once it enters the Pike National Forest. If you are traveling in other than a high clearance vehicle, park at the Pike National Forest Boundary, and hike to the caches. You can snag the 5 Warm Springs caches, the Weston Pass base cache (GC1WTNK) and the Breakneck Pass cache (GC1RW2P) with a moderate hike. Caches GC1YQ18 and GC1YQOW are in the woods, all the rest are in clearings.
10/18/2018 By tomorrowat7 Found with my uncle, benj59, back in October, 2018. I have my own account now and I'm catching up on some logs. He's helping me write them. :) Thanks for the geocache!
10/18/2018 By benj59 My family and I had a nice getaway trip to Fairplay for three nights this week. This included my parents, my brother and his wife and kids and my wife and kids. I had been really looking forward to this trip as I had anticipated getting my 2000th find and some other good caches in the area. Wednesday was a little too cold for everyone, but today was perfect! Beautiful blue skies and temperate fall weather made for great conditions for family geocaching.
This was the first of 7 we found on the day! And this was the big one! I really wanted to do one that everyone could do together. And this was absolutely perfect. The scenery was amazing, the walk was easy and enjoyable and everyone had a blast! And the container was nice and big so the kids were able to exchange some swag.
Even though I wasn't the one who spotted it first (the kids ran ahead of course once we knew where it would be) that was actually part of the fun for me. Seeing their joy in the adventure and the hunt. They don't cache often so I was fine with letting them create the memory.
After we made the find and signed the log, we took advantage of the beautiful day to take some family photos.
I see that the CO has not been active in quite some time. And yet, that is part of the beauty of geocaching - what you did many years ago is still bringing joy to families all these years later.
Thanks for the hide stcroix2. I appreciate you keeping this cache active for everyone to enjoy.
