From the time when kids had to walk up hill both ways to school in a blizzard, the Yuma County Historical society has set out to locate and mark as many country schools as possible.

Heartstrong Consolidated Dist. 8 was formed by school districts No. 84 White Eagle, No. 98 Wildcat, and No. 109 Sunny Slope on June 9, 1953 and approved May 27, 1953 by the County Superintendent, Herb Oman.

The village of Heartstrong has an interesting past The town was at the Northwest corner of this intersection

Copied from Colorado Gen Web

Established in 1920 by Cleve Mason on his homestead two miles west of Happyville. Mr. Mason built a store and platted a townsite he named "Happyville." When he ran into troubles with the postmaster general about moving the Happyville post office without permission he applied for a new post office with Maybelle Tucker as postmaster. The Heartstrong post office "officially" opened in May 1921 and operated until 1940. The 1922 Standard Atlas of Yuma County shows the Heartstrong post office located at the Happyville townsite two miles west of the Happyville post office. The community was locally known as Happyville well into the 1940s when for some reason Heartstrong became the favored name.

CO FTF with denbomans. Visiting from Southern Illinois and exploring the eastern plains of Colorado. This Yuma County School Project caught our attention. The history is so well researched and caches nicely hidden. We are enjoying the experience. Thanks for placing all the fun . Love the story about Happyville

Yay {FTF} 10:05 a.m. we’ve been wanting to work on this series for a while and we knew the SiBo’s were coming for a visit so thought it would be fun to get them out on the plains and on top of that have a chance to get some Colorado FTF’s. Love the series concept, love the history and love the hides.
Thanks for the fun!
