Alan's Memorial
Start from this point

In Monument, past the fire center. View pictures to see where to start your hike from Alan's Memorial.
Update 10-13-06, Rick has repaired the cache container and we have put it back. PLEASE NOTE: absolutely NO force is needed to open this container! If you are forcing it at all you are doing it wrong and you WILL BREAK the cache container. Do NOT assume that the most obvious way to open it is the right way. Think outside the box. Please use great care when trying to open the container, if you do it right it will be VERY easy. The same goes for closing it back up. Hint, the bottom part goes in first when closing.
The intended way to approach this cache is to head up the trail to the "Alan's Memorial" cache by Fork L Man. Park at the parking area near the trail head. When you reach the "Alan's Memorial" cache look to your left (southeast). You will see a small tree stump (about 3 feet high) and a single track trail heading to the south. This is the trail you want to take, trust me, it is the best way to reach the cache and it's a great trail that I don't think is widely used. Stay on this trail. At one point you will reach an area that the trail looks to go in different directions. You want to head to the right and up and over. You will pass by a cache dedicated to Hiker Ron along the way. Keep heading along this trail until it comes out into the open and you can see lots of very large boulders up the hill to the west. Head up the rock line to the cache location. The trail is there, just look carefully. And yes there ARE other ways to approach but they are not the way I intended. Please do not post any hints that could give away the location of the cache.
BTW, we stole this idea (with original owners knowledge) from a cache we did in Boone, North Carolina. Our favorite one there.

Sadly, this cache has been destroyed. I found the remains of the exterior container but the door has been ripped off and was on the ground. There was no sign of the interior container or the log.

Thanks for the fun cache! After work today I was looking for a good Friday hike. This looked like a good one to go after. Followed the trail to within 160' of GZ and headed up. Found this one quickly. All is in decent shape. Cache is dry. Signed and stamped the log and snapped a couple pictures of the area. Great hike with very nice views of the mountain and valley below. Thanks for placing this cache for us all to enjoy!

Decided to explore some different trails in this area. This was not actually the trail I intended to be on but I noticed this cache was right by where I was so stopped to grab it.

I discovered this cache on 1/23/16 with KJKlock and the fur babies. Everyone got a good work before the storm clouds rolled in. What a great place for a cache. Thank you for taking the time to place it there.

We headed up some new (to us) trails near Mt. Herman today with our geo-dogs and with Kazhmere. This was our fourth stop for a cache today. We didn't plan to go to this cache today, but this is where the trail took us, so of course we needed to go the extra 150 feet from the trail to find it.

I assume that something is missing from the cache cammo because we could spot the actual container from a good distance away. The container itself is also cracked near the bottom, so the entire thing could use some TLC. That said, this is a cool cache that probably took some creative effort to place.

I left a TB for the next finder.

TFTC!
