This cache is located 1.5 miles up the Browns Lake Trail from Crown Point Road. It is an ammo can and should not be hard to find. The hike to get there is a bit strenuous, especially if you aren't used to altitude.
Every day thousands of hikers hit trails across Colorado. When these hikers are questioned about staying safe around wildlife they will mention making themselves big when encountering a cougar, playing dead with a Grizzly (good luck with that!), and climbing a tree when running across an aggresive bull or protective mother moose. None of these hikers ever mention the threat posed by the small but terrifying yellow-bellied marmot. They will not attack you. They may even appear to be tiny 5 pound furballs of absolute rodent cuteness. However, they have a powerful death stare that can petrify a grown man for days on end leaving him exposed to the brutal mountain elements. Fortunately for most hikers, the marmot chooses not to use the death stare for significant periods of time. Instead the male marmot will use the stare long enough for his harem of female marmots to grab any trail mix, granola bars, and cash that you might be carrying in your pack. By the time you realize these items are gone the marmots are likely already stuffed with delicious snacks and hibernating for the winter on a pile of your cash.
So enjoy the hike to this cache. Don't look the marmots in the eyes. Please tread lightly. The trail should get you with in 200 feet of the cache. From here please watch where you step and leave no trace of your visit. Take in the beautiful view and go the rest of the way to Crown Point (or further) if you please. My children helped me place this cache and there is plenty of swag for the little ones. It may be the motivation they need to get up to Crown Point.
