Scenic view  Camping available  Horses  Medium hike (1km-10km)

Fifth in a series with something for everyone, from easy access to hiking trails to bushwhacking, to a good climb... all in the beautiful Elkhorn Creek hiking area.

After hiking across the meadow, you'll climb just a bit to get to the top of this prominence.  If you go up the east side, it's gentler, and if you go up the west side, it's rocky.

You'll find a small tupperware container with a couple of foreign coins in it. It's tucked tight an in a dark place and you probably won't see it til you bump your nose on it!

This was another nice cache allowing me to view the meadow below and see the layout of much of the roadway below. I was happy to have completed this cache because I was being pushed by the storm clouds to clear my way out of the rocks and get down to lower levels. I safely descended and returned to the trailhead by way of the roadway I spied from up top. Thanks for this great series.

I will need to get some help to find the one cache in this series that I missed. I will return because this part of the state is simply gorgeous with its big rocks and diverse terrain. Thanks, Triggur for your excellent work in this lovely part of northern Colorado.

This was our 2nd cache of what we were hoping would be a 5 Triggur-cache day. This cache had only been found once before and it had been over a year. We failed to thoroughly read the description and went to the top which proved incorrect. Eventually the hint helped us out a bit and we found the cache in fine shape. It certainly required a bit more climbing than we expected. I'm always surprised that these backcountry caches aren't found a little more often. I understand some of them are extremely difficult but a lot of the ones in this area are relatively easy including this one and it's not that far from the trailhead. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks for another great cache.

Denali50 and I arose this morning expecting our normal Monday morning activities–feed the pets and ourselves and then head in to Fort Collins for 2 hours of gym classes followed by delivering Meals on Wheels on our Monday route. We got all prepared, with gym bags and other things placed in the car. I had a few minutes to check e-mails before we needed to leave at 7:15 AM, and did so. Checking e-mails changed the day–not the six new caches that were published just north of Elkhorn Creek, but ONE specific one: the one having a 4.5 Difficulty/4.5 Terrain rating (Top Rock). For several years I’ve been attempting to complete the Fizzy Grid with only FTFs in each of the 81 grid cells. I’m down to six cells, and expect these six to require several more years to attain because the combinations are unusual, plus the caches need to be within reasonable distance from home base in order to chase the “first” on the find. When I saw the 4.5/4.5 combination, I immediately planned a different day than the one we had just about embarked on! It was suddenly a very “rare” day, indeed! As always, Denali50 was understanding as I transferred Egoscue mats and Meals on Wheels coolers from one vehicle to another for her, and got my day pack ready and my puppy Orizaba set up for several hours in the backcountry.

I drove to the Elkhorn Creek Trailhead and headed north with my puppy Orizaba until we were confronted with a raging creek. Following it downstream for about 1/3 mile brought us to a reasonably safe crossing which didn’t take us far from a straight-line track to the first of the six new Triggur caches. From that point on everything fell nicely into place, and we picked off the {FTF}s on each of these six beauties; I’m now down to “only” five cells needed for my FTF Fizzy Matrix. The day ranks “way up there”!

Thanks, Triggur, for a very interesting, full experience. You’ve placed some challenging caches in this series. I was delighted with each placement, and the views from certain cache locations are stunning. And my puppy Orizaba was excited over the entire loop!
