This geocache requires a bit of walking, running of skiing to reach. Great views from here though!

One can drive to roughly 11,800', then hike from there (private road) or better yet, hike from lower down on the country road or from Highway 550. In winter, this is a great ski destination. We hope to check on the cache this winter!

Please don't disturb the research equipment in the area of the cache.

Alright, second attempt exactly one year after first try. I know what I'm in for, but it's still a tough climb for me from the lower gate. I only considered giving up once when I thought about the climb ahead. Otherwise, I just kept going with a few stops to get my breath back. Made it to the top and searched as before. Coords took me to the same spot as last year and as described in the hint. Still couldn't find and I expanded out as before, but without time restraints of approaching dark. Nowhere to be found.

I suspected this might happen since there aren't that many places to hide and I thought I searched them pretty thoroughly. I messaged the CO without response. His page shows 3 finds on 2 days over a year ago and inactive since just after this was placed. In light of that and the fact this is an amazing place for a cache, I brought a replacement (which I've never done before) and placed it as close as I could to what I think the CO's intentions were. So... I'm claiming a find, which I will be happy to delete if the CO wishes, or if someone actually finds the original. I just liked the location and the hike to it and hated to see the process of publishing go to waste because of a cache that disappeared before it was ever found.

Saw this tonight on GC.com email. Was right there yesterday PM. Planning a trip back to that area this weekend.

Oh man, what can I say. We stopped by just to scope things out since the sun was getting lower. Parked at the lower gate, even though it was unlocked, because the sign implied I shouldn't drive any further. Was just going to hike a ways to see what the road was like. Turned around about halfway and started down. Changed my mind and walked to where the final climb started and thought about turning back again due to the time. Decided to go a bit further and ended up at the top. Went straight to the area described in the hint and began searching. Expanded out and looked as the sun goes behind the mountains. I really wanted this because of the effort I put in to getting here. Searched about 10-15 minutes before common sense told me to start down before it got too late. Got to the Jeep about the time I would've needed a flashlight. It was a beautiful hike, just wish it had ended in a smiley.
