This cache is meant for those looking for something more than a film canister... and it is located along one of my favorite trails - the Santa Fe Regional Trail.

The New Santa Fe Regional Trail provides a scenic journey along the front range of the mountains, from Palmer Lake Recreation area in northern El Paso County through the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The trail follows a portion of the abandoned Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad line, which, heading north to south drops 1,200 feet in elevation.

The trail is popular among hikers, cyclists, equestrians and families out for a stroll. Along the way you'll find interpretive signs, wildlife and interesting geological features, not to mention incredible views—in particular Pikes Peak.

The trail passes through the town of Monument, where you'll find restaurants and some shops, as well as through the Air Force Academy, so don't be surprised to see jets overhead.

At the southern end of the trail at Woodmen Road, the New Santa Fe Regional Trail becomes the Pikes Peak Greenway.

There are two nearby trail heads with parking: North Gate Rd. (outside north entrance of the Air Force Academy), and westbound on Woodman, parking is north of the road.

Please bring your own pencil and do not forget to sign the log!

Also, please carefully replace the cache, once you find it, for future geocachers to enjoy. Thanks!

After you find this cache, take a walk down to the "beach" and take a load off!

Congrats to Monty12 for the FTF!!

KSsweetie and I were out on a beautiful hike on a nice fall day with a friend who likes caching but only with us on our walkabouts. Thanks to Loud Moose for placing this creative cache!

Thanks for the fun cache! Catching up on a few older logs. It was nice to come down and meet up with Kerewin0430 for an impromptu lunch and escort onto the AFA. We parked nearby and made our way to the creek. Off went the shoes and hiked up our pants! Made our way across and up onto dry land. Here's where the laughs came in... Why did I leave my shoes over there!? Ha ha ha! I put on Kerewin's flip flops and made my way over the the cache and made a quick find. Not much room on the log so I added "RPCO" Then daintily made my way back to the creek where we enjoyed the stream and soft sand on our bare toes. Chatted for a bit and then made our way back across the creek and dry shoes. Back to the car and work sadly! Thanks again for the fun cache and thanks to Kerewin0430 for the AFA access!

Class ended early, so I took the scenic route home, picking up some puzzles, interesting caches, and larger containers along the way. I parked close and took the most direct route to the cache, meaning I got to take my shoes off and wade through water for a second time today! What a lovely little hidden beach. :-) Thanks for hiding this one!
