The location of this cache is at the top of a small mountain we call Junction Peak, our nickname for a peak near Loveland Pass (off U.S. 6) which affords excellent views of a variety of mountains, roads and ski areas.
Our name for this "unnamed" peak (at an elevation of 3940 meters or 12,915 feet) came about because it stands at the junction of routes going north and south to several outstanding 13ers. If one chooses to go north, one can go to "Little Sniktau" (sometimes called "Sniktau Jr") and Sniktau. If one goes south, one can hike to Cupid (a favorite of ours to do in February if the winds are less than gale force). There is also a cache on Cupid.

This cache requires high altitude hiking. Wear hiking boots (and hiking poles are useful). The route up to Junction Peak is STEEP. The weather can be harsh--even in summer. On August 4th, the day we placed the cache, we wore sweatshirts, anoraks, gloves and hats. The wind was blowing fiercely. As this is a high altitude hike, know the signs of altitude sickness--be aware of how you are feeling. Drink plenty of water--it is dry up here. Although this hike is short, it is intense, especially for cachers unused to Colorado's heights. So take it easy and enjoy the walk and the view.

Park at Loveland Pass--US 6. Because the point of this cache is to bring cachers to a lovely spot and to take a hike--if there is too much snow to find the container or if it has dropped into the rocks too far to find, or any other disaster that can occur to a small cache in the mountains--just post a photo of your GPS at the cache site and yourself, if you wish, and you will have earned your smiley.

I guess I was in too much of a hurry today. 0-3. I guess I'll have to give this another try on another day.

I saw the DNF by Abby The Explorer and feel bad that she did not find this elusive cache. It's been found by two others this summer so I have no reason to expect that it's missing.

I looked and looked for this cache. I wonder if it is there. This is a pretty muggle intensive area and a huge pile of rocks!

Who knows how far behind I am in logging but I'll do my best to not get any farther behind. Unfortunately that means I'll be keeping these short and sweet. Happy to be out and about looking for hidden treasures!

Big thanks to Grandma Nan (Adopted by Denali41) for placing and maintaining this cache. Signed log in some festive color (I hope) thanks for the fun and of course the smiley!!!
