This cache is located at the bottom of a sidetrail that can be accessed from the McClellan Mountain trail. The start of the sidetrail is located at the end of the second to last switchback on McClellan at N39 39.874 W105 46.349. This trail is not for the faint of heart as it is extremely narrow and tippy in places and is definitely not for inexperienced drivers. If you have any doubts, either hike down to the cache or skip it completely. There is small building and a very well preserved mine shaft at this location. The views on the way down are spectacular (if you can take your eyes off the trail).

put on your big boy pants and pucker up for this one! We had to clear the snow off the trail to make one corner, and I was hell bent on driving this road in its entirety. I drove 2 hours from Loveland to make this my main event of the day!

Adrenaline was flowing and this trail did not disappoint at all! AWESOME ROAD for the experience driver or those wanting to acquire a new skill of shelf road driving. I'm used to these road on an ATV, but this was a first for me in a full sized jeep TJ.

Thanks for a free junkie fix!

Spent the day jeeping and caching with Team Red Rubicon and grabbed a few caches along the way.

What an adventure we had on the trail today! I wasn't thrilled about driving over the snow....but was even less thrilled about trying to turn around on that narrow section of road. So with some spotting from Jpit, I made it pass the snow safely. Team Laxson, Mountain Roamer and I had second thought about heading down the trail to the cache....but KingJR was determined to get to the end of the trail. He headed out before the rest of us, but soon we were all headed down too!! Came across a few tippy spots and narrow sections but it was all worth it!!

After a little hesitation, I finally decided to go for it and drive over the snow and down the trail to the cache site. I've been here before so I'm sure why I was being so timid about it this time, but I'm glad I put on my big girl panties and went for it.

This is such a cool spot and so worth the trip!

Thanks!

What an adventure this was for Team Red Rubicon, today. We ran into snow on this sidetrail in an area that offers very little in the way of turn around spots. After "some" shoveling, we felt "ok" about pressing on.
I spotted Team Laxson thru the area with great results.......he made it! Then, most of the rest of the gang went thru, too. I should point out that we did discuss it and would not have attempted it if we didn't feel it was safe enough.
After finding the cache and heading back out, when we got back to the snow area there was an atv that tried to cross and was stuck. Not following in our tracks, he got too close to the edge and fortunately stopped before going over. We came along and got to have fun figuring a safe and successful winching session. It's always fun to "play" with our toys as long as no one gets hurt!

Yikes, this trail is no joke! We started down this very narrow shelf road and all seemed to be going well, until we hit a snow drift about 25 feet long. It wasn't too deep, but it was enough to cause concern by everyone here. Long discussions took place on if we should back up the shelf road (ugh), or try and dig it down and drive through it. Neither seemed like good options, but as we shoveled down to dirt moving forward didn't seem so bad anymore. I was first through the snow with jpit spotting me. That gets the heart rate up! yikes! After that, we got to one of the next switchbacks and our nerves were pretty much shot. Mountain Roamer went next, then Takes the Hard Way. KingJR made it through and really wanted to push down to this one, so he braved the trail first. And he made it. Hearing him (and his honking horn) over the CB gave us the push we needed to go the rest of the way.

This cache took significant effort and persistence to get to - both physically and mentally. But I'm glad I made the call to get here. It is a fantastic location. And that's what this game/hobby is about, isn't it?

On our way back out, an ATV decided to try the snow drift, but wound up sliding off the trail a little, and came very close to a fatal decision. No winter gear, no recovery gear. We were able to help them back on the trail without further incident and we became someone's hero . I can't imagine how long they would have been there if we hadn't stumbled across them - after all this is a rarely used side trail!
