Mt Antero is the third highest gem field in the world, and America’s highest gem field. Rare aquamarine crystals, bright blue beryl, goshenite, phenacite, betrandite, smoky quartz, microcline, topaz, flourite and apatite can be found on Antero’s vast talus slopes.

The cache is located on the southern slopes of Mt Antero, overlooking the aquamarine mining activities in a hard plastic, log and pen only container.

Looked for quite a while without any success. The location depicted by the spoiler photos is empty. I did look around in the rocks below the hidey hole for a bit hoping it had simply fallen out, but no joy. :(

Java Chip and I ventured up the little browns creek trail to reach this one. Great views along the way! Had a little trouble accessing the cache but was eventually able to retrieve it. TFTC!

Travelinghiker, his Mom, and I did a long day hike on the Little Browns Creek trail. Saw the location while approaching Mt Antero. So found the cache before summitting. Pen was misbehaving; signatures are mostly scratches. Thanks for the cache and photos!

Using the Little Browns Creek approach, my girlfriend and I summitted Mt Antero this morning. We figured it was better than hiking the 4wd road despite the extra length. Replacement cache was right as picture indicated, but I did have to feel around for it. TFTC!

Wings and Tales and I looked all over for this one using the spoiler photo. It's an outstanding place for a cache but alas we came up empty, so we put in a replacement. See attached photo. Thanks Climbstuff for another great location!

Kenyansherpa and I made the trek up Antero today in search of this cache and the one on the summit. We parked at about 11,800 and hiked from there. I had looked at the spoiler pictures and loaded them on my phone for reference. That rock is unmistakable but we couldn't find the cache. We checked the spoiler photos again and expanded our search a bit in case it had wandered in the 2 years since the last find but still had no luck. Kenyansherpa provided a replacement container to keep this cache alive and we left it in the exact spot indicated in the spoiler photos. TFTC

Cache was exactly where it was supposed to be. I can understand it would be hard to locate without the spoiler photo. I was able to get to it at eye level, though I understand that may not be something everyone would feel comfortable doing. Vort
Not a boring view from near the summit.

I will be in the area in late August. I will replace this one if it's still down. Don't archive it. Vort.

Attending the five day High Rocky Rider rally in Buena Vista with each day being a choice of high-five rides. Today was Mt. Antero and Baldwin Lakes..great switchback ride to the near summit on new snow tracks. Hiked from last spot to park atv's and got to the site but had no luck. What a bummer! Used the spoiler pictures and everything...
