This cache is named after our Black Lab mix, Tomichi, who in turn is named after this awesome road and pass. The cache is in a tuperware type container with a white lid. A high-clearance 4x4 is required to drive this road and turn-outs are limited. However, the cache is in a spot that will allow you to completely get off the road.
This cache contains a 2006 Jeep Rescue Vehicle travel bug. As such some "jeeping" is required. According to the forest service 4wd is "recommended", but I think it is required and that is why the difficulty rating is a 4.5. We have driven this entire road in a Jeep Grand Cherokee (several times now) that with the exception of 2 inches of lift, is stock. The road is very rocky and care should be taken, but it is a blast! A couple of points to note: 1) remember, those coming up have the right of way-never back down unless absolutely necessary. This is important to note on the shelf to the north of the pass (the alpine tunnel side). If you come in from the south (Tomichi cemetery side) you are not required to come over the pass if you don't want to. The second point: A true 4 low gear is very helpful on this road.

In addition to the travel bug, this cache contains:

Flag pin
Toy binoculars
Toy racecar
Playing cards
Rubber duck
Jungle animals

Have fun with this cache and enjoy the area. It is a beautiful place.
