Needs maintenance

Can be accessed via the Raggeds trail (ATV/hike) or from Hwy 133 at Paonia reservoir. The hiking from the Raggeds trail is downhill for maybe 10-15 minutes and the hike from the other side is a 20-30 minute uphill hike.

The combination of oaks and aspen should make this a spectacular fall hike.

The area has some private property but both approaches and the cache are not on it but please respect the private areas.
Sounds like the coordinates might be off, I'll try to get there soon to recheck but in the mean time try .956 for the last 3 of the westing. The listed numbers are from the "averaging function" but maybe it didn't work.

Cache hasn't been maintained in 8 years and has been destroyed. If CO is no longer active, it should probably be archived.

First off, there is no longer a good trail to this area. I was able to come in from the north and follow the Fillmore Ditch bank to get within 0.3 miles of the cache. From that point on, it was a serious back country bushwhack through downed timber and thick underbrush. Thankfully, there was no oak brush in the area.

I believe that I found the remains of the cache. There was a lot of white plastic broken up and spread around the area, as well as some highly degraded paper and some legible environmental political papers. I found the remains of a red rubber ball (which no longer had its bounce), a metal snowflake, and a pencil. I scratched around a pretty wide berth and could not find anything else. The remnants were scattered, so it looked like something had gotten a hold of the cache.

Signed log, left nothing, and took out as much trash as I could. I will add a maintenance flag but I suspect the CO is no longer involved so this will quickly become an NA.

Spent the rest of the day fishing. Trackable Webby enjoyed the pond.

There is no longer a way to attempt this from the Paonia Reservoir. Access is blocked by locked gates and private property signs. We attempted first to the right, past the picnic area and boat launch, past the gazebos up the hill and we met by a locked gate, under video surveillance. Our second attempt, to the left, towards the LDS camp, and again met a locked gate. We may attempt at a later date from the other side and ATV trail.

Your new suggested coordinates N 38° 59.192 W 107° 17.956 are right on. I used to hunt here about 20 years ago and my morning sitting spot was a couple hundred yards away. Seen lots of elk in those days but none today. You should have named the cache "Congressman's hands in deep pockets in deep creek". Anyway, thanks for giving me an excuse to come back up here and explore the ole stomping grounds.

Yahoo! First to find! This was quite the adventure trying to figure out where to start. Finally found the trail up. On both my husbands and my gps the coordinates took us about 250 feet away from where we eventually found the cache. So if you find yourself bushwacking off the trail- Stop! It is very near the trail. The hint will help you. Took wish coin, left butterfly appliqué.
