It's A Cattle Guard! #27

Set by a geocaching team that can’t resist the fantastic opportunities for magnetic caches in and around a cattle guard.

Out for the first time on Grand Mesa ATV trails. Discovered ATV sized cattle guards! Couldn't resist.

9-20-15 NOTE! Based on the first two logs, We are beginning to think that the rattling and vibration of 4 wheelers going across this small cattle guard is shaking the cache out of position. SO - we have replaced our standard metal tin (used in all other IACG caches) with a yellow plastic "bison type tube" hanging by a wire from the North underside of the CG. This should be more water and vibration resistant

As always, look carefully for unfriendly flora or fauna before reaching.

If cache contains water, please dump it out, sign log (printed on “right in the rain” paper), and replace where you found it. Thanks.

FTF kudos go to the mighty crawfordcollins on 8-28-15

Out riding 4 wheelers with a group. A couple of us are cachers so the group stopped knowing that there was a cache at this spot. Made the find and container is in perfect condition and nice and dry. SL TFTC

Came up with the same borrowed 4 wheeler that we used to set this cache over a year ago with the express intent of finding ALL of the LX series, (we did), resetting this cache with a different container (we did) and getting to the bottom of our DNF at GC1VFB6 - Columbine is close enough while on the same run as when this cache was set over a year ago (got to the bottom - no cache)

This cache is now of PVC material and hanging from a hook that should keep it in place as well as easier to open - even after exposure to the elements, man, cows, and 4 wheelers vibrating across the cattle guard. Also inked the names of the two previous finders into the new log. Good to go.

We were up wheeling on our Razor and wanted to do a little caching. We looked with no luck then the wife spotted it just laying on the ground about 6' from the cattle guard. Like the previous cachers we were not able to get it open. It's been damaged to the point you can't get the top off. Don't know if it was when they swapped out the cattle guard or what. Hopefully the owner can get it fixed soon!

After nearly a year from set date before being found, crawfordcollins deserves the FTF! We meet up with her at an event a couple days later and confirmed her find. It takes a 4 wheeler (or a LOT of walking) to get here and unlikely that we will get back up here this late in the year to fix the cache. Anyone that claims to have found it WILL be believed. If you have a pair of channel locks with you, you will probably be able to get the cache open again.

Wahoo, another FTF.... sort of. I am the first to find the cache, but I won't be the first to sign the log. I couldn't get the container open (again) and didn't have a tool one (apart from the tweezers in my geo-bag). I struggled and struggled until my hands ached so the CO will just have to take my word for it! The cows looking on seemed to be mocking me the whole time.

Several years ago, GeoHubby and I rode the trails up here with a group of friends. This cattle guard has been replaced since then because the one I rode over was much steeper. The trip was just a short time after I damaged my face (broken nose, knocked a tooth out, four stitches in my lip) by flipping a 4-wheeler backwards on top of myself, so I remember having to go up the steep incline of the old cattle guard being really scary! This new one would have been much easier!

It was a super soggy and muddy day up here, but Geo-Doxie Jr. and I still had a fun time riding in the RZR, finding a few caches and setting many more! TFTC!
