It's A Cattle Guard! #29

Set by a geocaching team that can't resist the fantastic opportunities for magnetic caches in and around a cattle guard.

On East Leon Trail for first time. ATV sized cattle guard- couldn't resist!

As always, look carefully for unfriendly flora or fauna before reaching.

If cache contains water, please dump it out, sign log (printed on "right in the rain" paper), replace lid on rust resistant container, and replace where you found it. Thanks.

No luck with this one. Searched all around but didn't dig out all the mud and dirt. Had to get on down the road.

Out for a ride on the 4 wheelers with a group of friends. A couple of us are cachers and I stopped the group so we could make this find. Container is in great shape and nice and dry. SL TFTC

FTF is still available!
We inadvertenly logged it as found when we replaced it last fall. Would delete the found log but will foul up our count and milestone finds. You find it, we will give FTF credit!

Made a trip up this way on Sept 1 at which time we set this cache but DNFed several in the area. Have had a goal of logging 100% of all caches located within the Grand Mesa National Forest (excepting one way off in the NE) and finished logging all caches excepting those in this area that we DNFed on that ill fated trip of 9-1. Now back grabbing those and checking on this one as have been having some complaints about being able to open the "tins" we have been using on the IACG series.

Good thing we checked this one! The small round (magnetic) tins we have been using work well on the flat surfaces that most cattle guards have but as this was totally of round pipe, the vibration of 4 wheelers crossing had caused it to drop out. We had difficulty finding it burried in the mud and snow but did recover the log and placed a new style of cache which should work well with this structure.

As this log is a week later than shown and we have had two snowstorms since the replacement, am sure this will be the last log until next spring but cache and waterproof log paper should be good for the duration. Have fun finding it! Team kekj.

p.s. If you want some interesting reading, see the logs for the caches on either side of this about TWO very ill fated trips out here, both when we set it and when we replaced it! Both were WILD hairy trips involving hrs of night riding, low fuel, blown tires, bucking snow . . . . .
