Takes less than an hour  Not Available during winter  Parking available  Off-road vehicles  Needs maintenance

OWNER CAN NO LONGER MAINTAIN THIS CACHE. LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO ADOPT. PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE IF INTERESTED.

Near the original townsite of Creede, this cache is about 2.8 miles up the road from the Bachelor Mine self-tour signs. Cache is located off an old track.
Head north from Creede and stop at the self-tour signs to read some of the history of this area. You will need to go right at the fork towards Phoenix Park. Road is dirt/gravel with some rocks. Four wheel drive is not required to reach the parking area but low slung cars will have trouble with some of the rocks. There is parking about 2.8 miles from the self-tour signs, although if you continue up the road you can actually pull off the road closer to the cache. If you find yourself walking up or down a very steep slope, there is an easier approach. You do not need to go cross-country to get to the cache.

While you're here take a hike up towards Phoenix Park and enjoy the views over the beaver dam. There is also a lot of fishing in the area.

Pull off road near square cement foundation. Nearby is an old track that leads you towards an old metal tank. Cache is within a dozen paces of tank.

I went to the spot and found it completely underwater of a beaver pond. There was no metal structure to be found and I’m assuming it is underwater as well. I did find the replacement cache and the log was in great shape. Thanks for the cache.

I did not see the old tank...I did see a bent pipe that may have been connected to the old tank at one time...and I saw a very impressive beaver dam/pond which may have consumed the old tank as GZ was at times pointing toward the water. I hate to see an old cache go away so I dropped a replacement (log only) near the bend pipe. It's in the vicinity of N37.54.150, W106.54.961. Don't get stumped by this one. Next Geocacher may want to bring something like an ammo container to replace the small orange matchstick container I left. Also...I suggest you take the first right coming out of town...past the gift shop and community center...cross the bridge...read the sign and continue past the cabins. You will see a sign for 502. I unfortunately took the second road further up the 503 where apparently the 502 loops around...it was a 4x4 event. Lesson learned. If you go past the cabins and follow that road your AWD vehicle will be fine. Happy Geocaching!

Had to take the steep slope scramble to this one. The easy access is now private property.

We happened to be driving up the road just site seeing, and decided to stop by and get this cache. We spent a few minutes navigating to the GZ and quickly made the grab. TNSL
