!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  You will need to enter the cemetery to find the cache.  Be very careful not to put the cache back into the lower hole or else the next cacher will have a great deal of trouble getting it out.  Return it to the upper hiding spot.

This cemetery contains about 5000 headstones.  The oldest we could find dated from 1868.  The grounds are exceptionally well kept with trees providing a park like setting.  The manager and the groundskeepers are to be commended for an excellect job.

Found this cache along the way down to Geowoodstock. Started the trip off with a 13-county loop around Colorado to try and get some of the counties that I am not normally near or might get to again. After that it was a nice trip of 5 States in one day as I travel further to Fort Worth, Texas. Tons of awesome caches preselected for counties, virtuals, earthcache or the age of the cache. Some got picked because they looked interesting as I drove through the area. So many good stops along the way took a 11-hour drive into a three-day drive. All the corners of the states along the way are great places to stop as well. I met other cachers along the way and ran into some headed the same direction. At a couple points I met up with a couple police officers and got to chat with them about geocaching. Another great reason to keep some printouts of what geocaching is in your car with you at all times. Thank you to all of the cache owners for keeping these active for all of us to find on our travels. I usually put jokes in all of my logs, but these logs are already going on long enough and honestly after 7 days of solo caching and the extreme cache hunting going on in Texas, I’m tired of caching! Now on to the hard part, documenting everything I saw and did while on this trip. So many photo and caches, it’s been an amazing trip. Again, thank you to all the CO’s and other cachers I met this past week!

Whew! Thought we were leaving a county uncached. This one was dead on and dry... no pun intended.

I am doing a solo run through southeast Colorado trying to pick up counties and DeLorme squares. This is day one of my three day journey.

I have a lot of spirit quest caches on my list and none of them disappointed me. I love seeing these old cemeteries so kudos to all the CO’s who contributed to the series.

I'm in Colorado for a family ski trip, and I couldn't resist coming a couple of days early and grabbing a few more Colorado counties!! This was the cache I chose for Bent County!!

Dave was born here in Las Animas so we came down to get some geocaches and enjoy the time together. Uploading a picture of what I think is the most garishly colorful cache Stop I've ever been at. Thanks for bringing us here

Heading in a homeward direction after visiting a friend in Colorado. It is still going to take several days with caching stops all along the route. Back on the Santa Fe Trail. I diverted after my cache at Boggsville to grab a couple in this well kept cemetery.
